Has anyone had trouble selling a van to the trade with a Q in the vin number. I bought one form Burton caravans unaware and now they wont buy it back! All was going well until I quoted the VIN number then all of a sudden they "already had bought 2 other of the same models" so they did not want to buy mine. Have a bought a pig in a poke?
Where about is the Q in the VIN? If it's the 5th, 6th & 7th characters = Optional manufacturer information (this is sometimes used by manufacturers to represent different model ranges)also some European manufacturers use the letter ‘Q’ for their build year code
What year/make/model of caravan? & is it Cris registered? It could be that there is nothing wrong with caravan just that Q in the vin no. identifies it as a specific model that the dealer regards as difficult to sell or as dealer points out, they have 2 in stock already.
You will probably get more for the caravan selling privately on ebay etc. If you want a dealer to just buy a caravan off you he will normally offer a pittance.
In the comments in that link it mentions a German made LMC caravan having a Q in the vin number. If op's caravan is that make then UK caravan dealers often do not want to sell German made 'vans for various reasons & from the op it appears dealer already has 2 LMC caravans in stock so does not want to buy the op's.
As pointed out, op will have no probs selling 'van on ebay, private buyers are happy enough to buy German made 'vans but dealers are less happy to stock them due to lack of UK fireproof mark on upholstery & usually no Cris reg.
