That is a shame Pen, looking to get some Milenco's.

Just a little pair, to reach when putting the awning up and to use when cleaning the top of the van.

A question on mirrors: I read some advice to have a flat drivers mirror and a convex passenger mirror. But when buying a pair I can only find 2 of the same in a pack. Which is best to go for in that situation, flat or convex?

Thanks

So I've booked our first trip, Burrows Park near York for 5 nights over New Year.

Can't wait to go but still struggling with mirrors. I can see by searching forums, both here and elsewhere, that it is by far a matter of preference.

But that doesn't help me, I've not used mirrors before and don't have a chance to try any before ordering, which I need to do pretty quickly.

Another think which you might find useful is a nose weight gauge. To make sure that you are not going over the nose weight limit for your car. It was a good suggestion to suggest you look at a site for packing your van as an improperly packed caravan will make it unstable.

If you go on the caravan club site you can look at advice without joining and also on the camping and caravan club without joining.

Enjoy your caravanning experiences.

Best thing I got was a stabiliser. If yours doesn't have one built in to the Alko hitch already.

It is designed to reduce snaking when something passes you or in side winds etc.

We usually take our own bedding off the beds at home, Pack em last thing in the morning before setting off. that way everyone gets their own pillow/duvet etc.... even the dog!

Again would reinforce the caravan loading issues...

We take the espresso coffee machine and a microwave both of which are set up on a table in the awning.

Enjoy.. best thing we ever did... 24

Thanks Sue, yep, got a nose gauge, and have been looking at videos non stop for a week now picking up hints and tips.

Hi Alan, yes, I'm sure it's got an Alko stabilizer thingamajig on it already, it's got pads in it?

Still no closer to a flat/convex mirror choice though

In the end I've ordered the Grand Aero's in flat glass, fingers crossed they are the right ones for me and my Mondeo.

Number plate has arrived, hitch cover has arrived, wheel clamp is here, hitch lock and fire extinguisher should come tomorrow and I think we'll be all set once the mirrors come!

I steam cleaned the carpet yesterday and it's come up a treat.

I love getting everything together and planning stuff, but I can't wait to try it out, 2 weeks on Sunday!!

T-minus 11 days to our first caravan trip and another question...

We are booked on to the very right hand pitch.

The same shape as this one (unfortunately no close up of the exact one).

Do we:
a. Park the van to left edge of the hard standing and put the awning on the smaller right hand side of the hard standing?
b. Park the van to the smaller right hand side of the hard standing and put the awning on the grass and the car to the left hand edge of the hard standing?

I'm not actually sure there is enough grass to the right of our particular pitch as it's quite close to the fence and tree?

Everything's easy when you know how... and unfortunately I don't.

Van to the left so you backing it straight in. They don't seem to want the awning on the grass.

As above I would think but usually each site would tell you anyway

Take a tarpaulin to go under awning carpet if on hard standing stones like that as protects the underside of carpet and makes it more pleasant to walk on

Have fun!

Jigsaw mats would be a lot warmer and softer under foot. They should be out in Aldi in May, but only a tenner for 6 in Halfords
