Hi to all - and a Merry camping Christmas too!!
My question has probably been done to death but I have almost run out of toilet chemicals. I have always used Thetford pink and blue chemicals for our loo. Quite happy with these but was wondering what other chemicals other people have tried and what are the pros and cons of these alternative fluids. Also is there any real point in the 'eco' or 'green' chemicals? There is so much choice I was hoping some advice would help me make the right choice.

Cheapest possible blue, you can get 5litres for about £9. Plain water in the top tank. If you run out in France where it is expensive, cheap biological washing liquid will do the job. I suppose it depends on how 'severely' you use your toilet but if you just use it mostly at night & use campsite bog for the serious stuff then cheap fluid does the job in my experience.

Funny, just found this week 4x5 litre blue and 2x5 litre pink on a shelf in the garage. Bought last year sometime when Halfords were selling them cheap. So we are sorted for a while

We've started to use the Blue Diamond products, currently 2 X 4 litre bottles for £12.00 at Go Outdoors, I find it works perfectly and is a lot cheaper than many other products that are available in 2 litre bottles

We use Elson, bought in a double pack. We find this good. I can't remember the price. We didn't like Thetford we found that black bits kept coming out on the flush.

We've been using the Blue Diamond which we stocked up on when Halfords were selling it off (got tons of it in the shed!) Before that my husband preferred Elsan Double Concentrate. We use the toilet for everything.

Use Towsure pink and blue,cheap and cheerful and does the job well,I think it's like supermarket brand names,well known products in their own packaging.

I buy whichever is cheapest at the time I need to buy some more!
Some sites insist you use Eco or green chemicals as I know of one site that empties into a septic tank but not sure how they could check which chemicals you actually use?

We have for about three years now just used a cap full of either Tesco's or Sainsbury's own brand low cost biological laundry liquid. "8 shots for about £1.5.
I do empty the cassette every day, but primarily as being old I have given up manhandling a full cassette.
These enzyme based products are fine for putting down organic sewage systems like septic tanks, which feature in some of the 5 van rural sites we like to use.
The flush water on our vans has been supplied from the water system so we don't add chemicals to that. We have a house plant hand spray with double strength pink for freshening the bowl.

Thanks for advice all who have replied. I forgot to mention our loo is strictly pee only use - im not sure im up to clearing the mess my teenage boys could happily create for me in the loo!. Sounds like I might need to try some of the cheaper alternatives suggested here. We also have to empty loo at least every other day due to the volume of pee produced by 2 teenagers and 2 adults!! If you have any more suggestions keep 'em coming - all advice gratefully received

Also agree with sooty - we also get black bits in the flush tank using thetford pink - must be a 'feature' of the product....

well their is only 2 of us but the loo needs emptying every day,must be all the booze.We only do number ones in bog.Anything else is a job for the onsite blocks.We got a good deal on 2 very large bottles of loochemicals from the caravan show.
