I was under the impression that the 556 didn't have the cupboard. Although, according to the OH I have been mistaken before. Its the length of the bunks I need.

The external width of the van is 6'11" so the beds will be about 6'6".
The mattresses go under the shelves so they don't make any difference.
We have a 556 but its in storage so I cannot check.
Our girls are nearly 6' and fit easily.
Hmm you might be right there actually sorry - they have windows on the end for each bunk I think so must be full length.. We looked at a few the other year when we were looking at fixed bunks
These vans are older style in that they are only about 2.13m wide, so bunks I guess must be 2m give or take in length
There are also various special editions Mayfair/Godiva etc all based around the 556-6 if I remember correctly
I am in the process of choosing my first caravan, after doing the tent > trailer tent > FC route over many years, and I have a couple of limiting criteria which will determine the van model. I have teenage grandchildren so a decent length bed is required, but to get the van to its storage location I have a pinch point of 7'3". The Dart is the only van so far which seems to fit within these limitations.

I have the Avondale manual and it gives the sizes for the 556/6 as follows:
1 lower bunk 1830 x 630 and the upperbunk 1765 x 540.
The fixed bunk top is 1980 x 625 and the fixed bunk lower is 1980 x 635
