my van has two connection points.. one outside and another one under the sink in the cupboard.. a little blanking plug goes into the one not in use.. i fastened a plastic tank in the cupboard for permanent water while on the move.. i also fitted a switch on the inside pump so that they could both be connected at the same time.. if i want to pump from the outside only i switch the internal pump off.. i mostly just use the internal tank
basically it isnt difficult to do..

i fill my onboard tank ether directly with a hose or via a cheap pump and a portable container..
i use these.. one permanently fitted in the van and and carry two full ones in the back of the tow truck.. i spend a lot of time touring.. weight stops me carrying more in the van.. every four or so days i have to stop somewhere to empty the loo and fill up with water..

I fitted a water tank to my previous caravan.
I fitted a submerged pump in the tank non return valves on the outlet and on the feed from the external pump and a solenoid valve from the inlet to the top of the tank.
I could run either from the inboard or outside at the flick of a switch and fill the inboard from the outside aquaroll.
I also fitted level switches in the tank, one at the bottom to protect the pump, one at the top to stop over filling and one about 1/4 way up so I could fill automatically

Ive also always fancied fitting an onboard tank since i swapped from the Motorhome. I still cant understand why the majority of caravans dont have one from the off.

weight and towing regulations i think.. i think most folks now make a dash for the nearest site with water laid on and would only tow with it empty even if they had one..
i tour a lot so find one essential but i can only manage a small one.. i was thinking of fitting an external tank underneath until i discovered the little under sink connection i didnt know was there..
