Hi I am looking at retro fitting an on board fresh water tank in my caravan. While I am competent at most jobs I need a layman's guide or diagram to how this is done. I have read an article about this on a forum but it goes into relay switches etc. which i don't really understand. All I want is a basic system and don't mind having to swap valves across every time I fill. I live in my caravan and have already experienced my aquaroll filler tube frozen. any help will be greatly appreciated.
my van has two connection points.. one outside and another one under the sink in the cupboard.. a little blanking plug goes into the one not in use.. i fastened a plastic tank in the cupboard for permanent water while on the move.. i also fitted a switch on the inside pump so that they could both be connected at the same time.. if i want to pump from the outside only i switch the internal pump off.. i mostly just use the internal tank
basically it isnt difficult to do..

I live in my caravan as well i stop my aqua roll freezing by putting it on a cut down euro pallet and also i put a 25w aquarium heater inside it this i left at it lowest heat setting which is enough to keep the water from freezing but water still cold coming out of my taps(I dont drink from my aquaroll only using it for shower and washing up) I also have a top up valve in my aquaroll and the pipe i remove and refit when i need to top up water(every 3 days or so,I have 2 aquarolls connected together as well)

the heater i have got in mine came from pets at home was cheapest one they did £15 and when it was minus temp last week had no frozen pipe from aquaroll to caravan but i do have some polystyrene lagging stuff over it..
easy enought to fit on board tank as did it to a bailey senater i used to have,I fitted tank under the front seats pipe which currently goes to wall of caravan goes into the new tank either fit a in tank pump or a inline pump wire that pump to the feed to the aquaroll so it works when taps are open, i used the aquaroll and fittings to fit the onboard tank but fitted a intank senser so it switched off the aquarool pump once the tank was full.. I plan to do this to my current caravan as well mainly so when touring if arriving late or its wet i do have some water for washing up.. there is a haynes manual type book about caravans which shows more in depth of fitting on board tank..

i fill my onboard tank ether directly with a hose or via a cheap pump and a portable container..
i use these.. one permanently fitted in the van and and carry two full ones in the back of the tow truck.. i spend a lot of time touring.. weight stops me carrying more in the van.. every four or so days i have to stop somewhere to empty the loo and fill up with water..
I've being trying to reply to this topic for days but I have been locked out! I have fitted one to a Unicorn Barcelona 2, it works well. If this post worls I will try some pics.
a pic of my simple onboard water arrangement.. a 23 litre container strapped in place it can be refilled with the little pump on the right of the pic or the empty tank replaced with one of the two full ones i carry in the tow truck or if a hose is handy straight from that..
i am lucky in the sense the van was originally fitted with an onboard connection point in the first place.. if i want to use the outside connection when the inside one is empty i switch the inside pump off.. a little switch on the left..
I fitted a water tank to my previous caravan.
I fitted a submerged pump in the tank non return valves on the outlet and on the feed from the external pump and a solenoid valve from the inlet to the top of the tank.
I could run either from the inboard or outside at the flick of a switch and fill the inboard from the outside aquaroll.
I also fitted level switches in the tank, one at the bottom to protect the pump, one at the top to stop over filling and one about 1/4 way up so I could fill automatically
Ive also always fancied fitting an onboard tank since i swapped from the Motorhome. I still cant understand why the majority of caravans dont have one from the off.
weight and towing regulations i think.. i think most folks now make a dash for the nearest site with water laid on and would only tow with it empty even if they had one..
i tour a lot so find one essential but i can only manage a small one.. i was thinking of fitting an external tank underneath until i discovered the little under sink connection i didnt know was there..
