We have a 17ft awning for our caravan, but have never had a proper groundsheet or awning carpet. Does anyone have a good recommendation on what to get, or where to get a bargain?
From what I can gather I would probably need 6.0mx2.5m for a full awning.
We've had both ground sheet and breathable carpet and must say I prefer the carpet. It is warm & soft under foot and, although it gets muddy underneath, we can simply bung it in the washing machine when we get home.
Can't remember what make it was I'm afraid.

A good quality breathable groundsheet will do everything you want it to do. I bought ours at Go Outdoors. No damage to it even after a week on a sharp broken concrete hardstanding.
It lets the grass underneath breathe so it stays green. It usually goes all yellow and eventually turns to mud with normal ground sheets.
Anything placed on it like the steps or your fishing box, stops it breathing so that bit of grass gets damaged.
Some sites insist on breathable only. I like those sites as we don't have an awning now, just a sun canopy, so it's nice not to have to sit out on mud.
In general, you can use a breatheable groundsheet inside an awning for up to 10 days with absolutely no bother. When you leave the site, the footprint will look a bit more yellow but will recover in a day or so.
A non-breatheable groundsheet would probably have killed any grass completely in that time, especially if the grass was wet when you arrived.
we've stayed on sites where the warden comes round each morning to make you lift your groundsheet if you are going off-site for the day.
This our pitch in Cornwall a few years ago after 15 days using a breathable groundsheet, the grass was fine apart from where the mud flap was and anywhere anything was left on top.The weather for the first week was very wet and some people had been putting plastic sheeting under the breathable groundsheets to keep the water out and it left a stinking muddy mess.
