I would think the service man can do the job better if the caravan is empty so it would be in the owner's own interest to ensure there was a clear area to work in.

I have certainly never emptied my caravan.
The places that were checked was above the main door, the roof/wall corners in the loo/shower, under the windows in the lounge, etc etc.
If I am doing a damp check I usually have to move things in the lockers, but that is no big deal.
I suppose it depends on how much stuff you keep in your unit, but I would not empty it just for a habitation check.
I always had to empty my van for the annual damp check and to be honest it was a right pain. I would have thought that most of it could have stayed put but the dealer insisted it was emptied and as it was all warranty stuff I didn't argue. The new mobile guy is more flexible in his demands, one of the reasons I didn't continue with the dealer service, the other is price.

Yes am a bit confused where my van is in for service am told ok to leave stuff in (main dealer)...sister in law says her main dealer insists on completely empty van..doh.....
