Does anyone know of a heater wizard in or around Huddersfield/Wakefield/Barnsley please?
I'm reluctant to take my old caravan to a dealer/caravan place as I don't know if it is worth fixing! I could just do with a bit of help please. Anyone?!
In the same position as i have a positively ancient caravan. I emailed ARC Systems recently and i believe its Gary, has been extremely helpful and patient with a mechanic who knows nowt about gas and just wanted a clean and functional heater! lol .... I think he is down in Nottingham, not on the wrong side of the pennines like yourself!
But from what i read and from my own experience he comes highly recommended! ARC Systems

For the moment then I'm away and it's email only, info at arcsystems.biz, or of course on here. But give me a bit more of an idea what you think is wrong, as best you can, and I'll suggest some options.
Failing that, I'm back on the end of a phone a week on monday the 9th, or if your in a hurry, give Mel Burns a ring 07947 394916
He's good Elaine and I'm from barnsley .told us what was wrong with our carver heater and he was right .We didn't know of the safety cut out at back of heater in wardrobe until Gary told us .give him a go

A little while ago, whilst trying to light the fire the whole thing went 'boom' and the cowl flew off the roof an a metal box thing shot off the bottom. So we spent a cold weekend in February in the van, brrr!
Following replacing the cowl and not knowing what to do with the metal thing we haven't really bothered doing anything else, except removing the dial thing and attached rod as I had received a couple of electric shocks when trying to light it previously to the boom! The rubber on the back of the dial bit had perished somewhat so I think it wasn't insulating when the spark button was depressed.
Do you think this is fixable please? and what sort of prices am I looking at? (I'm not terribly practical either....can you tell?!)
Another issue we have is with the water pump, it doesn't turn off for some reason, but it is a new one (Whale?) so we think it must be something to do with the circuit rather than the submersible bit. We also cannot get the water to heat on gas, not an issue when we can hook up to electric of course but that doesn't always happen.
The caravan is a 1994 Abbey Stafford who really should be retired but we do love her when we can caravan not camp - we are hot air balloonists and we have to tow the balloon in a trailer so can't tow caravan and balloon when we are going to balloon meets. And no, we aren't rich!
Well very clear to me and makes plenty of sense, your no so daft as you think then
However! what is confusing me is this metal bit that blew off the bottom? only in that it suggest to me this is not a 3000S but the earlier 3000 because that would make perfect sense as what you say is common on them.
The bit about getting a shock also ties in better with a 3000 as the earth connection that stops shocks can be come detatched and that makes you earth...ouch!!
To be certain then, any chance then you can email me a quick piccy of the fire with the front removed? or even this metal bit that blew off will do or enven if you can discribe it? (ie, is it a small very light aluminium casting with a metal plate full of little tiny holes in the bottom?)
Sorry Elaine maybe what I said did not make sense too you?
Thing is, in 1994 the gas fire in your van should be the 3000S and currently dealing with three of them together with yours.
So as you did not mention exactly what it was, I confused myself a bit their and what I'm more convinced of now is yours is the slightly earlier 3000 from 1993.
If then that's the case and I think it is, then it's good news as any parts required are readily available and it simply needs a proper service. So I still recommend you contact Mel as I suggested earlier, and no it should not cost a lot!
Hi Elaiine. I think your water pump problem could be a faulty microswitch on one of your taps, or the pressure switch if you have that sort of system. Can you hear any clicks when you turn taps on and off? If you can, you have a microswitched system. If some taps click but one doesn't, that is probably where the problem lies. If none of the taps clicks, you either have a pressurised system or all the taps are faulty.
We are away this weekend (not in the van) but hope to bring it home the following weekend to overhaul/clean it, so will take piccy's and the like then, however the aluminium casting that blew off the bottom got a resounding yes from hubby and son/heir for the description above!
Taps; we don't hear a click and there is a pressure switch under the bunk next to the tank so could this be a pressurised system then? If so, what do I look for in fixing it? (We have to turn the pump off to stop it).
Thank you for all your help, I feel a little easier hearing all this, so I will contact Mel the man who can! Stand by!
Hi Elaine. Yes it does sound like a pressurised system. There is probably an adjuster on the pressure switch, so you could try turning this and see if it makes a difference. If the switch is beyond simple adjustment, they are not very expensive to replace.
Hi Colin D, yes that's the one, thank you. It will get a good twiddle in a couple of weeks and hope that's the end of it, but great to know they won't break the bank if we need a new one.
As you can imagine, we are quite reluctant to spend a whole wallet load of cash on our old girl as we are never sure just how long she is going to last.
We do need a cover for her though, if anyone has an old one? 21ft I think?!
