We have measured our caravan A measurement to be 816cm but my husband bought an awning that goes from 785-809 (he had initially measured it to be 808). Will this 8cm difference pose problems or should we return it and get the next size up 810-834cm?
Obviously going to be expensive to return it as our mistake so was just wanting to get some advice first.
A lot depends on if you pitched on the flat or a slope. A slope would see the bottom barely touching the ground.
You are already 'under' to start with.
Id sooner have a bit of slack if it was mine.
We made a similar mistake although we went by the measurements Bailey stated and bought a size 18 for our barcelona which showed as being within the size range of our van but it doesn't fit and have ended up out of pocket as well. We have now sold our Dorema 350 deluxe for a massive loss and now have to re-purchase a size 19. Our van is at the dealers and they have measured the awning rail and its measuring at 1100 which was the maximum size for the size 18, even though Bailey's info said it was below that. Have now learn't the need to always measure the van's rails first before purchasing an awning Our pitch on our seasonal site is also sloped and one side of the awning was way above ground so couldn't peg it down or do anything, that's how bad it was.....aggggghhhhhhhhh! Our loss ended up being someone else's gain but you live and learn. We would suggest you return it and get the next size up.....just DON'T put the awning on the van because if your awning brand is like Dorema they won't accept a return if the awning has been used even if just quickly put through the rail and not actually put up as was in our case, hence why we had no choice but to sell it privatly.
Awning sizes usually seem to go up in 25cms now days so if you have got a measurement of 816cms you need a awning size 7 or 8 depending on manufacturer.
When I change my van I always measure van my self never take salesman word for it.
I use a length of electric cable with neat cut end, I then feed cable through awning rail starting from the front until neat cut end just touches ground at rear of van then touch ground at front of van without pulling cable mark ground level at front with felt tipped pen.
Remove cable from awning rail and lay out in straight line and measure in CMS from neat cut end to outside of felt pen mark.
Then measure from slot in awning rail down to ground vertically through centre of wheel, some vans vary in height.
Then using the size range of the awning manufacturer which I have decided to purchase find my measurements in their range of sizes
IF your measurements are correct you will need an 825Cm
