I have just purchased on of the new Avtex televisions (DRS) version with the inbuilt satellite decoder to put in the caravan and I am having
A Tekeco satellite dish being fitted to the roof.

I presune this will allow me to pick up the Freesat satellite channels , is there a subscription charge for this?

Also does anyone know if the decoder built in would pick up SKY television that I could pay the extra subscription to them to extend my SKY package at home , ie sports, movies etc.,without having to use a SKY Digibiox?

As for watching Sky on your Avtex TV, firstly does it have a CAM slot, if not then you are on a hiding to nothing.

Even if the Avtex does have a CAM slot, there is no legitimate Sky Videoguard NDS CAM's available, well I tell a lie actually under EEC Law, Sky did have to make them available, so one was produced, only one, and that remains safely locked away in Ruperts safe!

The CAM is a device produced to work with a particular service providers encryption, you simply insert the viewing card into the CAM, the CAM is then inserted into your receiver of choice.

Of course Sky satellite receivers do not have a CAM slot, as they are only intended to work with the Sky Videoguard NDS encryption system, which is already embedded into Sky receivers.

It was possible I believe to by a Dragon CAM, which in effect was a MultiCam, and would work for various encryption systems including Sky Videoguard NDS.

Personally I would never buy a TV with a built in satellite receiver, if it involved any extra cost over the model with out.

The satellite dish you mention, is that a Teleco as I am not sure that there is a make called Tekeco ?

FREEsat is what it says in the first 4 letters.

You will only be able to get Sky if the TV has a slot for your Sky Card

My Avtex TV's satellite decoder is not provided with a FreeSat licence.
It is a basic generic satellite decoder.

It gets the same channels as Freesat but not managed by a Freesat EPG Electronic program Guide.

So unless you have some way of knowing what programs are on this evening or through the week, it will not tell you.
It also means that to record something, you have to know when it is on and manually set it up.

A really disappointing cop out; having a Freesat decoder would have greatly improved a TV set sold for touring. We don't all have access to "TV Times" etc when in France, and not always an internet connection either.
I carry a true Freesat decoder Humax, and use that.

The other pain with our Avtex is on terrestrial; for a touring TV the auto tuner is painfully slow. So on arriving on site get it auto tuning, don't dare wait till 5 minutes before her soap come on!

Otherwise, not a bad, nor a good TV.

Hi Dave.
        Nice piece of kit the fully automatic Teleco especially with the Auto-Skew.

But for the thick end of £2k I would expect it to work down on the Cote d Azur for Freesat channels, which it won't.

For that you would need a 1m Dish, for the princely sum of £50 or so!

The Teleco will be fine for UK use, but then Auto-Skew would be overkill, better to go for the Teleco that uses either the Selfsat or Attisat FL500 Flate Plate antenna's I would have thought, there again maybe you have.

You will not be able top pick up Sky programs with the built in decoder. Also be aware that you cannot view channels later in the day on the EPG.
We eventually resorted to taking our Sky box from home to use with the Avtex as it si also a bit of a nightmare to record on the Avtex TV.

Yep, would you not think that a high end brand like Avtex would partner up with Sky, so that they could offer an Avtex TV with embedded Sky Videoguard NDS decoder with Card Reader, and also a CAM slot.

Something like the Avtex Sky+ HD portable TV, there are plenty of folk out there who be quite happy to pay a premium price for such a portable TV.

Having said that they don't even do regular TV's with built in Sky, which I find rather odd in this modern age.

I think it has all to do with the volume of sales of Avtex TVs etc which does not make it worthwhile for them buying into the Sky EPG etc.
