Well after my previous experience of caravan ownership (the wheel fell off literally 1/2 mile after after pulling out of a dealers) and my declaration that I will never ever tow a caravan ever again fast forward about 4-5 years and many discussions about tents vs trailer tents vs motorhomes vs caravans vs just go to a hotel lasting about a year, we have just put a deposit down on an Eldiss Avante 464.
To be honest we only went to the dealers to have a look for something to do.
We were after a small light van with fixed bunk beds, we didn't think that one of these even existed until Sunday and we have looked at hundreds of vans over the last year or so.
Towing course is in process of being booked
I am not sure when I will be able to pick caravan up as my company has been bought out and the staff that come across will receive a one off bonus this will allow me with our savings to pay cash for the van. The timing of the payment is the issue as it is once the regulators have signed off and finalised (this will happen just a case of when) so it could be in the next couple of weeks or it could be at the end of July.
Dealer is aware and ok with this and relaxed at the timings - he has someone who's van has been there for 9 months!!!
From one new caravan owner to another, isn't it great?
My redundancy cloud had the silver lining of giving me the opportunity of buying a caravan that would have been out of my reach otherwise. Hope you get everything sorted quickly and start planning your trips away
Thanks but we wont be picking up ours up until at least the end of April, so please let me know how you get on with yours next week, would be interested to hear how it goes / what to expect
We are more or less brand new caravanners ourselves (if you discount the experience we had of owning one about five years ago for about a week).
we've been tinkering over the past two weeks to make it perfect for us.
Whilst we got the caravan with the intention of having the bunks, we don't have any children - the bottom bunk is actually for our dogs!
We've taken out the bottom bunk base and they're on the floor in their own little cosy den!
We're really pleased with it, and can't wait to head off in Sunday.
We'll let you know if there are any need to know bits!
Don't let the past taint your future, you will love it, things happen of course and i'm always learning something new each time we go out, but its worth it. Infact, we now love caravaning so much finally upgrading our beloved 23 yr old Sprite Alpine. So lots more new learning to do.

How weird we bought with bunks for our dogs, and Parrot on the top ofc :)
