Hi. I've just had to purchase a new leisure battery (110ah) as we are having a motor mover fitted next week. The battery just fits into the locker (plenty of room to the sides) but I haven't been able to put the rubber covers back onto the terminals as there just isn't enough room heightwise. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem or will the battery be ok with just the metal terminal clips on the rubber covers left off.

Thanks

Should be ok, as long as there is no possibility of the terminals contacting anything metal. Is there no possibility you could take the battery back and change it for a lower one? They do come in different physical sizes with the same capacity.

Colin

I had a similar problem then I noticed there are bits on the battery handle that you press out. Once this is done the handle lies almost flat and should fit in the locker.

Do you need a 110ah battery? It will run a motor mover for a couple of HOURS or more.

mine only just fits in but the rubbers are just for short circuit protection they are not really needed with a battery safely tucked away in a box..

ours was the same, we changed the terminal connectors to ones like these
You do need a bigger battery for a motor mover.

I too have a 110AH battery with little head room.
When replacing my battery this season after winter storage I too could not get the covers on, so I pulled battery out halfway so terminals where exposed sort of half in half on door,
I supported the door with my aqua roll barrel I then positioned my clips so could be tightened and then fitted covers pushed battery and tray into locker positioning surplus cable down front and rear sides of battery fed in tie belt and secured, shut door and locked. easy peasy.

No you don't need a bigger battery for a motor mover. The average motor mover draws 20 amps when running, i.e. after an hour you will have used 20ah of the battery. An 85ah battery is quite capable of giving 20amps consistently.

I've just asked this on another forum
We changed our clips to the lift up ones and it's so tight we are having problems getting it back into the space. The wires keep coming out of clips also . So we may go back to the others

85 ah is plenty enough for a mover.. i like a 110 just to give me more usage for other things.. plus the bigger the battery the longer it will last..

but if a battery isnt used much an 85 ah is plenty.. it should give well over an hours actual moving without any problems..

Never knew that and made me smile.

Must ask SWMBO if she fancy's going to Strathclyde Country park in the van but no CRV. It's only 20 mins from the door. Can you imagine plod's face "excuse me Sir how is this caravan moving" oh by motormover officer...........

Possibility is there is it not.

You may not be aware, but the time you take to get there is inversely proportional to the average speed at which you travel (*).

For example, if the park is 10 miles away and you take 20 mins to get to it in your car, you're averaging 30mph.

However, with a motor mover at 1mph, you'll find it takes you 10 hours to get to the park. If the suggested 20A draw is correct (and I suspect it's more than that, as that is only about ¼ horsepower), you'd need a theoretically-ideal 200Ah battery to make the journey. The 110Ah (again, assuming fully-charged ideal battery) would run out 5½ hours into the journey, 4½ miles short of your destination.

I strongly advise you to rethink this plan or take at least one spare 110Ah fully-charged battery with you.

(*) ignoring relativistic effects, which are negligible at typical motor mover speeds.

I will get a 3 mile extension lead, family along the route, 1mph means we could order take away and have them delivered on the move, sounds a plan.

Jeez oh, did you really have to use that humungous word at the end there something effects now you gone and spoilt it, cannot do it if Star Trek are involved :-(

In this case bigger is not necessarily better!Bigger also equates to heavier, with the exception of Li batteries. There is no point in losing payload unless really necessarily
