hi all, have a very puzzling fault. Tap in toilet wont switch on but if i leave it on and turn pump on with kitchen tap it runs, then switch kitchen tap off, tap in toilet runs and pump carries on running until tap in toilet turned off? So microswitch should be functional? Any ideas?

So:
Turn toilet tap on, nothing runs,
Leave it on
Turn tap in kitchen on, pump runs water comes out of tap in toilet too
Turn tap in kitchen off, pump carries on running water still coming out of toilet tap.
Turn tap in toilet off, pump shuts off.

Puzzled, as if microswitch in toilet is inoperative it shouldnt keep pump running, nor shut it off when tap off?

Just as a note. Kitchen tap works fine.

Replace microswitch in the bathroom taps then all should be fine, think you can fool the switches into working when you turn another one on but you still have the problem in original tap.

The micro switch sounds as if its needing replaced.
By keeping the toilet tap open all your doing is making an escape for the water when another tap signals to the pump to start pumping.

I agree with other replies, but I too am also puzzled as to why the washroom still runs after kitchen turned off; as you rightly suggest, the washroom tap should stop as you would assume the duff switch wouldn't allow the tap to run once 'started' from the kitchen. Maybe the contacts are worn enough to have too much resistance for the pump to start on it's own, but will run once the pumps started.

Change the switch as a starter. In fact, I'd change both switches in the washroom tap while you're at it.

you'd DO BETTER TO PUT IN A PRESSURE SWITCH OR TWO (ONE FOR HOT WATER, ONE FOR COLD) I did this a few years ago when my microswitches were failing, one by one . . . No trouble since. Cost about £50 for two; dead easy to fit.

That's very odd if the pumps still runs.
Sounds like the tap mechanism rather than the switch itself.

You can check the wiring and switch easy enough with stuff you have to hand.

A low wattage 12v (from an interior light?) bulb across the two wires will tell you if there is power there and then with one wire connected to the switch and a bulb in the other wire you can tell if the tap is closing the switch.

Sounds to me if compression spring in micro is duff but also check if push on connections are not green giving bad contact.
the spring also pushes contacts together and shuts off went tap is closed allowing spring to move back and break contact.
