Does the wind stop you going away or put you off towing . We were going to go away next week . I haven't booked but the weather is very windy .
Would it put you off .
I wouldn't fancy it but if I had paid £100s booking a pitch and squared the time off work I would be tempted. Sleeping in a caravan with the awning flapping in a gale is not much fun though so if it was a weekend away I would probably stay at home and pick another weekend. I live near Malvern and I believe if was the caravan show at the 3 counties show ground . Saw loads of caravans and motor homes today at it was very blustery. Didn't envy them towing their vans home.
Yes if its very windy but don't listen too much to the forecast, make your own judgement. They often get it wrong and exaggerate, also sometimes if you give it a couple of hours the wind can die down, it moves on.
It wouldn't put me off but the OH may be a bit worried to say the least. The simple answer is to drive to the conditions of the weather even if it takes you half hour longer to get there very much like driving in heavy rain or fog.
A few years ago we had a rally booked about 70 miles away and the day of departure was high winds and the OH didn't want to go. I insisted that we go but by the time we reached the M1 motorway the winds had totally ceased and rain took over which was that heavy I had the windscreen wipers on full belt and travelling about 40 mph. I drove to the conditions and we arrived safely. The following two days were glorious sunshine so it was worth going after all.
We are going away on Wednesday and I've been watching the weather especially wind speed, we live on the Chilterns so when it's windy we certainly know it!!! I'm hoping it isn't as bad as today but I'll just take it easy and watch for the cross-winds on the exposed bits of the motorway. Luckily got a heavy 4x4 and heavy twin axle. Hope you get away for Easter, the wind is supposed to die down Good Friday.
Wouldn't and didn't stop us. It has to be extreme to make any difference to our tow, can to car weight ratio is low and van is twin axle which aids stability.
Rest is down to good route planning and a steady drive.
Towing in strong winds? NO! Lost a van on Bodmin moor and i was doing 30mph and a gust hit me like a tornado, The wind hit another van in front of me a T/A, The wind didnt turn me over, but blown the car 4X4 and van across the duel carriageway into the central barrier,I was fighting to get the car and van out of the stones in the center of the carriageway the van was getting ripped to bits on the barrier.Very lucky that i had a few witnesses. Not very nice, not worth it just for a nights fee.
------------- Roughing it in style at Calloose caravan and camping holiday park nr St Ives.(seasonal pitch)
Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
Just towed back across the fens in pretty strong winds. It wasn't pleasant but it wasn't too gusty so we just plodded along. I wouod defintiely alter my plans if I could, but wouldn't not go away if I couldn't altert them. The weather forecast is sooo often wrong!
------------- Started with a motorbike and tent.......my gallery, my life.
My First time ever towing a caravan was this weekend ( done trailer tent very heavily loaded for years), wind was high in south wales ( severn bridge shut trees down in my garden when I got home ),
but I just thought it was me being a bad tower and slowed down

On our 4th ever outing at the weekend towing along A14 in the fens very scary. We slowed right down didn't do over 40mph which felt as if we could keep control So glad we only had 18 miles to go. I think we would think twice if forecast said very high winds.

I travelled on the M4 & M5 yesterday (not towing) amazed at how many vans were travelling in atrocious weather most seemed to be coping ok lightweight outfits I.e. Megane towing a small Sprite seemed to be struggling.
