My husband and I are taking our friends with us for a few nights in our swift challenger 490. I am stressing because between us we prob weigh around 65stone will my caravan collapse

Weight distribution is an important factor in loading. As long as the weight is spread evenly over the caravan then you are ok. So swinging will have to be in the awning as probably caravan bed is not up to that combined weight if there is a lot of movement.

I think they may be referring to their own weight and not the weight in the caravan?

The Challenger 490 is quoted as being a 5 berth van. Does that answer the question?
