Anyone else hopping up and down with the bad attitude and handling of this return of faulty Calorlite canisters.
We attempted to return the one we have to the Caravan dealership where it was purchased (10 mile round trip) to find large notice pinned on the cage containing at least 10 full replacements stating that they were not taking part in the replacement scheme and directing us to the main Calor Centre (30 mile round trip)- no way!
I have just phoned the Calor helpline and was fobbed off by being redirected to my nearest Calor Centre (30 mile round trip) with the suggestion that they might deliver one - fat chance, I was told that 'everyone is in the same boat'...what? When I stated that this problem is not of my making it was shrugged off as a well that's life attitude. Appalling!
I took both of my Calorlite cylinders to the nearest stockist the first week that Calor announced the recall which is a 30 mile round trip from home / storage / stockist and vice versa but was a sheer waste of time as I was also fobbed off saying they hadn't been officially recalled in writing from Calor. I took both cylinders back to the caravan and left it at that because Calor announced there was no cause for concern and they were only being recalled for precautionary measures. Both of my gas cylinders are nearly full so I will just wait till one is empty then take it for exchange as normal as that way it saves my fuel, time and wasted effort and should finally get a fully tested one.
If any company is going to undertake a recall of any kind then they at least need to be a little more organised and dealt with more efficiently because if it suddenly becomes a major safety issue for any reason then it's more likely it will fall on deaf ears.
So it sounds more like that the problems arising are more to do with the stockists rather than Calor themselves. Maybe I ought to give them a call now then to see if I can get my two cylinders exchanged.
Is a 30 mile round trip really too far for peace of mind,I know I would drive that far, there must be a safety issue involving these gas bottles, companies do not recall their products lightly, alternatively, call into a stockist on your next trip out.
Looks as though you missed the point here AL53HX. I called into several stockists as it happens including the one where the cannister was purchased they either have no Calorlite or do not want to get involved with the exchange palaver.
I would not be making the effort to get it exchanged if I was not concerned about the safety issue. It is a case of Calor not instructing stockists to make the exchange and not cause all this unnecessary mileage to do so.
By your rather 'holier than thou' attitude, I can only assume you have not been involved in this issue personally
Where does my my Holier Then Now attitude come from, you never mentioned in your OP that you had tried several stockists, you implied that you weren't willing to do a 30 mile round trip to change a potentially dangerous product,as a matter of fact,I changed mine last year with no difficulty, perhaps the stockists in my area are more friendly then in yours,if the stockists don't have any,you can order one from their next delivery and leave them your phone number(presumably)
