I'm so excited about my purchase I've decided to join a caravan forum!
After a year of searching (ever since seeing my friends little caravan) the 'right' caravan came my way (sort of- on eBay) and I'm going to pick it up on Saturday.
She's a little Sprite 400 from the 1960s. I don't know this 100% but from comparing the pictures to others on the internet I'm pretty sure. Apparently they're called '400s' because they weigh 400kg... I hope this is right because my car isn't super powerful and I can't avoid coming up Detling Hill on the way home!
Does anyone else have an ancient caravan?
She's in desperate need of renovating but is solid and dry. Apparently she's been sitting in a field for a few years.
Wow bet you can't wait! 400kg!! Very light! Do get a damp meter though as if it's been in a field for years it's bound to have atleast abit of damp, they're not expensive though as just gives you a heads up before it gets too bad :) keep us updated with pics! What car do you drive by the way?

I really can't wait! Went straight out to B&Q to get Hammerite, sandpaper, and other supplies.
My car is a Renault Clio 1.5 diesel. I did a fair bit of research before looking to buy a caravan and it seemed that a Thomson Mini Glen or a Sprite 400 was the best plan, technically I could tow more but I don't think it would be practical/sensible.
If there is damp what's the best first step to take?
It depends how bad the damp is, if your lucky you might get away with sealing the windows and door but if it's extensive then it will need to be cut out and rebuilt, depends how long you plan to keep it though
