Hi, bought a caravan this week and never checked it out when I bought it.
Just going through the van and found that the carver heaters control rod was loose and just dangling into the heater hole.
I've just taken the cover off the heater and found that the long control rod has snapped into two pieces almost three quarters of the way down.
Is it worth me buying a spare control rod before I just take it to get serviced so I save myself a small fortune on a repair that I could do myself?
Also there is a pack with 2 wires going into it on the floor with what looks like a round button on it that clicks if it is pressed down hard.
Where does this go?
Realized now that the rod hasn't snapped, it comes in two pieces.
The long piece that is connected to the heat control adjuster to turn the heat up and down, and then there is a small piece of metal that clicks into the floor I think? And this small piece also clicks from the floor clip up to that small pack with the 2 wires that has a place for it to clip into.
However, looking at the pack with the 2 wires it doesn't seem to be anywhere for the longer bar that dangles down to it to clip onto?
Also noticed that there is old white tape all wrapped around the bottom of this pack like as though somebody has tried to do a temporary repair job, but for the life of me I just can't see how the long bar will connect to this fitting
I see a little gap in the top but if I try and force in the control rod then it seems like the pack is being forced open and looks flimsy and wrong like it's split?the heat up and down, and then there is a small piece of metal that clicks into the floor I think? On the plastic igniter, (the plastic bit with the 2 wires)on mine, the part where the long rod fits into was broken. I tried to glue the rod into the space but that did not work and the lot fell apart the first time I used it to ignite the fire.
In the end I held the rod in place on the igniter and then screwed a Jubilee Clip around the igniter and the rod.
I have now been using it this way for 2 seasons with no problems.
Indeed it is now a stronger and better set up than the original.
