She would only need an extra test for largish outfit car/caravan of max allowable weight combined of over 3.5tonnes. This max allowed weight, not actual weight. Ie you cannot load it light to get under 3.5tonnes. Under 3.5t its ok on an after '97 licence.
To tow reasonable sized caravan you need to avoid 4x4 vehicle which has high max weight as then it won't leave much margin for caravan to keep under 3.5t combined.

Sharing is caring! My OH is still a virgin tower, though he is a wizz with the mover!

I have a 2.2 diesel, but I'm really happy with it, she pulls away well and I can use 6th gear on the motorway on the flat.
I had a Kia sorrento and was just legal with my old van which was only 950kg so I was expecting a bit of a drastic difference but I find her very capable, there is ample room for gear and fuel economy is pretty decent.
I think the low center of gravity in a saloon is surposed to help with stability too.
At least with the petrol you won't have the DPF issue!

Thank you for your info. We currently have a compass omega 450/4 with a maximum weight of 1074, which is currently getting towed by a Mazda 6 2.0 petrol. So looks like we will be sharing the driving/towing, why did I ask the question, ha ha
Surely your partner can drive a heavier combination anyway with L plates on so long as you are with her. I believe this also includes motorways.
