Hi all. I've just purchased a solar battery trickle charger for use when my van is in storage to help keep the battery from discharging.

Question is it has a cig connector on it, can this be plugged into the internal cig 12v socket or do I need to run it to the external solar panel socket in the battery box?

I plan to leave it in the window inside the van so the internal connector is preferable.

If it goes onto the in van CIG socket it won't be able to feed the battery when the van off car switch is set to off....

I would go into the locker direct to the battery you could make a lead up cheap enough

You were spot on, in the end I tested the sockets. The cig in van is isolated with the master switch. The one in the battery conpartment for solar stays live so I've used that one.

What power is this "trickle charger"?
Unless you have perfect conditions I suggest you can only expect a third of the power it says it will produce.

Not expecting it to do miracles just stop the battery going flat

I hope you are right. If the van has an alarm and/or tracking device, then with a 6 Watt panel inside then IMO it has very little chance, during storage through the winter months.

From experience you will very rarely get 6 watts from it, especially inside a window, and it will be more like 2 or 3, especially in the winter.
I doubt it will keep your battery charged, sorry.

No alarm or tracker so nothing drawing current from the battery. Fingers crossed it doesn't prove to be a waste of money

a good battery with nothing drawing current from it discharges very slowly.. it should work..
