Hi All
I have picked up a caravan for a project, its an Elddis Typhoon with a Carver cascade rapide water heater.
I am having problems filling the heater tank, the barrel pump is attached to the housing but the water is being pumped back out of the housing from a hole just above the pump connection. It seems to be bypassing the the tank but on closer inspection there are no valves inside.
I have a photo but I dont know how to attach it with this forum
Can anyone advise

Just inside the water inlet there is a non return valve, if it has become displaced you do not get water into the rank. If you are lucky you can push the non return valve into place by gently pushing a thin peg into the hole and hoping to move the valve. I have used a thin tent peg in the past ( long distant ). If that does not work the valve will need replacing, but it is so long since I did it I can not remember how to do it.
What I gave just remembered is that you need to remove the filter to find the inlet hole which has the valve behind. I hope I gave that right but hopefully Gary will be along soon.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

sounds like Crystal filter is missing from water inlet,
Have you also checked winter drain valve is shut, any water from taps when pump running ?????
As stated previous posts could be a very small foreign body stopping non-return ball valve from closing.
I have experienced same problem with tiny piece of plastic out of water supply on campsite, once cleared all okay.
I also have had problem of using excess amount of water due to air relief valve in hot water heater outlet sticking open instead of shutting with pressure of water
also worth a check if van has not been used for long time
Hi all,
Thank you for all the advise,
To answer a few of the points, there is no filter just a housing, which you connect the barrel pump to and on the inside of the van under the seat there is a elbow with blue pipe which connects to the tank.
The winter drain is shut
If someone can tell me how to attach a photo I could let you see what type of housing it is and where the water is coming from
Thanks

Hi, how big is this hole? if its at the bottom of a 2 inch tubular recess then as naturlist123 says filter is not in place. these are a replaceable item that need changing every season cost approx. £10.

However, if you do not want a filter the system works just as well without a cartridge in place.

Hi all,
when you look at the housing you can see the barrel connection which is in the middle slightly below center and another hole which is above the pump connection and to the left of it, the hole is about 1/2" diameter and that where the water comes out
I have a picture that I could send but how do I attach it to our chat?
