I have just purchased a second hand Lunar Premier caravan, it was in very good condition and in my opinion cheap at £800...
However the rear corner has leaked and to my horror most of the timber has totally rotted out. From bottom corner to top corner and 15 inches along the top....
I suspect it's the awning rail but also as I scraped away the polystyrene I have noticed several pin size holes that can't help with water ingress either' !
My question is because some of the timber I need to replace is curved to follow the profile of the van is it possible to use marine ply instead as I can cut the correct profile from a larger sheet ?
Also what do you suggest I do to the pin holes...fibreglass matting ,filler, mastic ?
I need to do these jobs before I reseal awning rail as screws have nothing to screw into at the moment,...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Cheers....one more thing, the thin ply panels I ripped off that have the interior wall colour on ...can identical panels be found or is it a case of finding something similar and living with it ? The only good thing is that the damage is limited to a rear section that can be sectioned off so maybe a different colour panel might not look too out of place....
Or magnum motorhomes. We used prepapered wallboard and looks good as new. Sounds expensive but defo worth the cost.
If you can get a few other bits from them at the same time, then they can be included in the shipping...i.e Awning rail inserts etc.
Get on the net and type in spares for caravans.
there are several companies that buy the surplus stock from the caravan manufacturers after model changes.
These people come in about 1/2 the price of Magnum and O'Leary's and have stock wall boarding etc going back numerous years besides some things you would have thought obsolete.
they can be found on E-Bay as well. good luck in your surfing. Ps several Breakers also buy up new surplus stock from same source. F&M spares at Hull use to be in that business. but think now gone upmarket to servicing ?????
