Hi folks. It's posting time again.
Had van out for first time, last weekend, and discovered the fridge doesn't work on either gas, 12v or EHU! Damn
It's an Electrolux and is fitted in our 2002 swift challenger 520SE.
Checked fuses etc etc but still not working.
Any ideas or advice greatly appreciated as always!
Eg...can these things be fixed or are we looking at having to buy a new fridge ( hope not!!!)
Hi, Strange it does not work on 12v 240v 0r gas. does the gas ignite? if not try lighting hob burner to make sure gas is through, then ensure any gas line tap is turned on. 12v will only work when connected to car and engine is running providing car is wired correctly. look in adjacent cupboard to see if fridge is connected to 240v via a plug and socket and is switched on.

If its not working on either gas or electric I would suspect a 12volt fault assuming that is, the fridge does not light on gas??
Its very unusual for a fridge not to work on both gas & electricity.
My thinking is that even on gas it may still need 12v to light & to work the thermostat on 240 so a failure of 12v could possibly cause your problem
But this is only guesswork.
is the battery flat & are you sure that you are getting 240v to it
Hi, yeah, the gas is through to the cooker ok & its a brand new leisure battery so I've no idea at this point :-( there's no light in the fridge to ascertain whether there's power to it either. Wouldn't want to run it on gas to be honest as we will always be on EHU so that bits not really an issue. Towbar is a twin electrics new fitting & powers up everything else ok so I'm guessing the fault lies with the fridge. Think ill have to book it in to a repair place & let them get to bottom of it!
Cheers for replies
If fridge is not working at all then suspect coolant leak, if that is the case then new fridge required. All you can do is take fridge out & check. If you cannot see a coolant leak then turn fridge upside down & leave overnight to try to remix coolant, sometimes works but not always.
Probably paying anybody by the hour to remove it & try to fix it is not worth it. You might as well get a new fridge.
I always check my fridges in previous vans work on all three supplies after winter storage.
Due to condense they have always been difficult to start on gas, have to hold gas knob for longer 2/3 mins till condense burnt off. does igniter work.
my last van would not run on gas turned out burner was rusty new burner fitted £34, fitted through side of van when grill removed.
The van before that failed on 240/12volt due to jet wash spray going through grills and soaking fibre glass lagging shorting out through push on spades for heating elements.
Removed grills pulled lagging towards out side and left van sat in sun along with help from OH hair dryer every thing worked after 3/4hrs in sun when tested.
No rain over night so replaced lagging and grills next day never failed again.
New van just press button 1 2 or 3 for testing on gas 12v or 240 if don't work after 15/20 sec's on any alarm goes off and usual green neon turns red if freezer or fridge door left open to long alarm sounds
Thank you everyone for your posts. Very interesting thoughts & comments regarding the fridge not working. I think ill have a look at it this weekend and remove outside vent too. See what's happening. Will report findings back on here. Cheers folks! Much appreciated as always !
Hmmm. Be interested to see outcome. Our fridge does not work properly as well, freezer does not freeze and not 100% convinced fridge is cooling also. it has a power supply to it as the light inside comes on when the door is opened.
Worth pointing out. For fridge to work on gas or mains caravan needs to be level. If you are trying it on a sloping drivway then fridge will probably not work. 12v only works while you are towing & often 12v mode does not cool that well.
Ours doesn't have an inside light so no way of knowing if power is to it or not. ( although the gas ignition light which flicks on and off when pressing must indicate some power) I thought the freezer section of the fridge felt cold once switched on but obviously not frozen. Hoping its something quite simple. Only bought van last October & its been in storage until last weekend. Had one owner from new & guys really looked after it ( serviced it yearly etc)! Hopefully its not just given up the ghost as I imagine these things aren't cheap to replace! Will update in next week :-)

Surely the switches light up with power? Or a power LED on front?
You will need caravan 12v supply for piezo spark device to operate the gas igniter.
