We are thinking about getting a gas bbq for those sunny morning fry ups etc outside the caravan. I like the look of the Cadac range but would also like to be able to cook something bigger than sausages and bacon. Does anyone have any experience with cooking a whole chicken for example on one of these bbq's
Saw them in Lakeland recently.
I would have bought the large size had I been in the market for one.
I think it offers greater scope for even small families.

Ive cooked whole chicken and roasts on mine. They were lovely. Heat cadac with lid on then pop chicken in roasting pan (roasting pan was very difficult to find when I bought mine) adjusting heat to suit. It takes a bit of practice and better with smaller chickens. Dont be tempted to lift the lid every 5 minutes. We have both, the bigger one and the safari. The big one I keep at the caravan, the smaller one gets less use but that's the one we took abroad. The best buy was the paella pan - I use that for most things but most useful because I can cook the full breakfast for 2 on it at the same time, saves cooking in batches and food getting cold.
We used to have a Cadac but found the heat was not easy to control for roasting and the lid was large and cumbersome to store and carry. We now have a Webber Baby-Q 1200. It has a thermostat and a deep lid so you can use as an oven to cook whole chicken and roasts as well as normal BBQ Breakfasts etc. We bought the separate rack to use in foil tray for roasting chicken. Also bought Griddle that covers half the Grill plate (perfect for eggs- fish pancakes) It is supplied with fitting for small gas canister so we changed it to connect to caravan external gas outlet.
It is so good we use it at home as well.
We have the carri-chef deluxe. Roast leg of lamb, roast beef, and many more dishes. It takes practice and I tend to use a trivet to hold the meat off the surface.
We have a cadac Safari. Great for a fry up or a curry made in the wok/lid but a right bugger to clean after a BBQ .
We looked at a weber travel BBQ as we have a full size weber at home, but couldn't get a low pressure version / conversion kit to connect to a calories cylinder which was approved by weber. I even called at their offices just outside skipton who confirmed they only do a high pressure ( disposable canister) travel version.
They aren't BBQs. They are grills/griddles/ovens. you won't get that BBQ smokiness from it.
we have one of the older safaris that run from screw in canisters.
Brilliant. Cook bangers, fish, bits of chicken or duck, steaks, chops. Grill aubergine, tomatoes etc.
I resisted the whole cadac scene for many seasons, dismissing them as a fad, and anyway we have a lovely cooker in the caravan. And I think I would have held that view, but for our first year in France where the weather made cooking inside a less desirable proposition. Now we have a cadac and love it. Also because the cadac very much like a BBq has become the "me man I cook over fire" which absolves me of the cooking! It's a win win😃
we have the full size cadac and like others i resisted for years, my saying was it aint a bbq unless it has coal, anyway i've had one for around 8 years now and class it as one of my best caravan purchases, daughter has pancakes in the morning on it we have breakfast, we do curries, fajitta's even paella on it.
