Hi All, first post but been reading threads for a while and have gained lots of useful information. I have a dillema!! I am after a used caravan (4 berth, fixed end single beds) with maximum weight of circa 1540 (honda CR-V 2.2) but the following thoughts:

After doing research German seems the way to go for quality and lack of damp problems.

German caravans all seem to be to heavy for my car!

so.... what is the best of the rest? reliability is important thats why i drive a Honda!

some other information - i will have circa 15k to spend and I am a beginner so this is my first caravan.

thanks in advance

Marcus

Adria make good vans if you want European made.

Bailey make good vans, don't listen to all the tripe posted on the net, they get more posts because they have a third of the UK market so sell 1,000's of vans each year.

We've owned both and would recommend both.

Have a look at Adria - Great vans, no damp problems and are many of them are quite light vans.

Ours is a 6 berth, triple bunk with a MTPLM of 1300Kg

Hi All

Thanks for the replies - I have checked out the online reviews about the Adria and am visiting Venture today to have a look around. The sportsline UP looks to have the best layout for me but it seems to be missing a window on the door side front of van. Has anyone used this van and comment if it lacks light?

thanks

Marcus

Plenty of German built caravans light enough for your car. Google the makes for websites. Most German makers have large ranges from basic to luxury. Only prob is that most German makes have little or no dealer presence in UK so you would need to buy abroad. It's perfectly doable, dealers in North Belgium for example will all speak fluent English. You could do the deal & tow it home in 2 day trips from Dover.

Hi Marcus, we have the 2014 Sportline UP. I too was concerned about the lack of light with no window ahead of the door, but I needn't have worried. The Heiki rooflight that is part of the Sportline package provides a great amount of light, so no problem at all.
Enjoy your look around at Venture. I will add that we love our Adria.

Well with the £ giving the € a kicking, I would certainly be looking at buying abroad, and will be come 2020!.

A member on here recently bought a Burstner Premio 450 TS.

Very nice van new price of 14,000€ so at the current exchange rate you are looking at getting change from £10,000

It would be the van of choice for me 935kg unladen weight, and an MTLP of 1300kg, not bad for a 4 Berth with fixed Double bed.

They did the deal when visiting the Caravan Salon (Show) in Dusseldorf, which I think is held in November, they then picked up the van from the dealer in Holland early the next year.

So buying is pretty straight forward, and if you don't mind the caravan door being on the Right Side instead of the UK Left Side, then it's a no brainer imho.

The annoying thing about the Burstner website, is that if you click on the English icon to change from the German txt, it dumps you straight into the motorhome section.

So to look at the caravans you have to stick with the German txt, which is a jip.

Had a trip to Venture today and spent some time having a look around. I was not convinced by the sportsmen UP and was more taken by the Adora Seine (Adria). Just felt a nice place to be - quite a contemporary feel to the veneer and surfaces.

the only problem is the weight - its maximum loaded weight is 1700 and miro of 1500. my 85% is 1554 so is this a realistic option? or just too heavy -

Wish I had got myself a land rover from the start and had no issues with weight! (if i could afford one!!!)
