We have a Sterling Europa 500 and are looking for an inflatable porch awning. The straight section of the roof is circa 3 meters but with 3 kids we need more space. The advice is not to get a porch awning wider than the straight section, however I was wondering whether we could stretch to 3.4 meters without too much compromise on the fit? The other option is the traditional awning however weight and hassle makes this unattractive.

The model we are considering is the Outdoor Revolution Oxygen Airlite 340. Any recommendations or suggestions very welcome. Fairly new to caravanning and have been losing the will to live considering all the options!!

Thanks

Im unsure about air awnings, but we have managed to fit a Kampa Rally 390 onto our 462 caravan by sewing a length of traditional awning bead down one side of it, and feeding it into the channel down the straight bit at the back of the caravan. This keeps the awning tight to the rear, like a traditional awning, and frees up a few inches of rail space to the curved front rail. For this to work though, the rear of your caravan rail does have to have a fairly straight drop, the pole configuration works just the same as in a longer rail would.

The only other option available to you would be to buy the correct length porch awning, then buy the extention pods to zip in each end as sleeping and playing space for your children, rather expensive l know, but probably a better option than having to upgrade to a larger caravan.

I have to say I'd not read that advice before buying our porch air awning. Ours does go into the slope a little and hasn't caused us too many issues.

What is the reason for the awning to just sit on the straight section?

We have a sloping roof on our compass 360. We opted for the pole version of the Kampa Rally rather than the Air version which would have been our preference. We have found that we can get a better fit with the poles as they are adjustable and the awning looks more square and less saggy on the van

Thanks for the responses. My concern is that one side of the awning will be up to 10cm lower than the other, and as Legenetay pointed out we cannot adjust the inflatable poles. Having said that as long as the full width is greater than the minimum height required will really matter that much?

get one that you can add the annex to, that would solve your dilemma still have the correct straight roof but on floor level would have the extra space needed

The lower end of my vans sloping roof is 2 cms shorter than the minimum height for the Kampa Rally. and someone on here suggested that we use wheel ramps or blocks on both wheels to give the van some extra height. We haven't tried that yet as the awning actually looked ok once we had made adjustments to the legs and pegged out. It's something we may try on our longer summer holiday though.
