Having seen an article in the caravan club magazine about recalls on calor light bottles we looked and ours is one of them.
We have tried locally to exchange it but no where seem to have any stock...or so they say.
We recently stayed on two caravan club sites where we thought we would be sure to be able to exchange ........being the helpful friendly club that they are but......... NO.
Neither of them would exchange it even though they had stock, we were out of gas and they said they would sell us one but not exchange it because it was a recall. We didn't want to buy another, it would have been the cost of the gas plus bottle and then we would have had two which we don't want.
Reason was they needed it for thier customers....erm we were customers and they would have got the money back for the bottle as it was a recall.
Cue phone call to the caravan club.....
My husband asked why, they said bottles could only be exchanged at retail outlets and the club sites weren't retail outlets, it was up to each set of wardens as to weather they chose to sell gas or not.
He told them that the article was very missleading it read as though you could return it anywhere.
I can't for the life of me understand why they will sell a bottle of gas to a NON member yet won't oblige when it comes to their own members.
I didn't have any trouble exchanging mine at the local calor gas depot. Club sites are just providing a limited service for people who run out and i wouldn't have expected them to do a free exchange.
Thankyou, didn't think of checking stock levels. A problem we've found with places in our area as soon as they know it's a recall bottle most have said they can't get the stock
Well I changed mine via the recall at a CC site late last year .... it was relief wardens at the time but they were all set up for dealing with the recall.

And if you read my post you will see that I said that I said it was up to the wardens. We found that out from the phone call they didnt tell us at the time, how are we to know.
Even after your phone call you carried on slating the CC when they clearly told you they have nothing to do with the recall.
If you take it to the correct supplier they will give you a full bottle even if yours is empty, the CC could not do this, they would have sold you one though.
Errr having just read my post again I can see no where I slated the club my post was about gas. There is a lot thats good about the club their sites are excellent as you will see in my reviews which I put on here. AND.......yes we will take it to a CORRECT supplier now we know thats what we have to do. There are many people on here who can slate the club a lot better than I can, go jump on them.

Did the wardens refuse to sell you gas under the exact same circumstances of a non member?
I changed mine at my local Go Outdoors although they did not have one in stock the gave me a voucher and took the old cylinder. They phoned two weeks later to say that my new cylinder was in and ready for collection. Great service as it is a 30 mile round trip and I was in no rush for the replacement.
There should be more rules when it comes to what site wardens can do. I've always thought that their prices are high and the quality poor. More money making projects than looking after members.
