We've just got a 2010 Vauxhall Insignia and have been looking for a towbar for it. One advert mentioned that the towbar wouldn't be suitable for a car with parking sensors.
Has anyone come across this problem?

I'm not a complete idiot...some bits are missing.
I have a fixed flanged towbar on my motor which has them and no problem. They do bleep when reversing caravan as I did not bother to wire the disable switch.

Use dedicated towbar wiring specific for car & you will have no probs whatever towbar you fit. Bypass relay is cheaper than car specfic wiring but go for specific, I would. Neatest looking towbar is swan neck type, or you can go for removable at extra cost, ball & rear bit remove & stow in boot when not towing.

I think the concern relates more to beeping when you are reversing without the caravan attached.
I have parking sensors, makes no difference if no caravan on they beep as normal, I do however leave more room these days so I know the tow bar isn't to close. With caravan attached the rear ones don't work. Had my tow bar fitted by a local tow bar specialist, he did an awesome job and at a reasonable price too.
Lots of cars these days have a trailer stability programme in addition to the usual one for car only. This is dormant however and activated with dedicated wiring which is a good reason that spend that bit extra - as well as it deactivating reversing sensors with a caravan attached.

Our new Dacia Duster came with both parking sensors and a towbar factory fitted. It also has a cut off for the bleeper when we are reversing with the van/trailer.
The reversing sensors won't detect the towball because they are positioned too far away from the centre of the rear bumper. It's where the electrical towing socket is fitted that has to be taken into consideration which has to be located preferably under the bumper if possible.
The first vehicle with rear parking sensors that I had a towbar fitted to, I was told that I would have to have a detachable which cost twice as much but the last three cars I have had I had a fixed flange towball and never had any problems with the towball being detected when reversing solo without the caravan.
