It's worth trying car wax, it it is desolvable or oily in any way, this stands a good chance of doing it.
Works well on tar spots and oily stains.

We finally got the majority off with a kitchen hob cleaner called astonish paste. Is slightly abraisive but used carefully it worked.

We lathered it up with a sponge rubbed it over the spots left it for 5 mins then rubbed off with a damp sponge.
Be wary on glass though as you do not want a load of little scratches on it.
