Sorry to rake up an old thread. I am going to view a 2008 lunar quasar 615 tomorrow. How did the original poster get on?

Anything I need to know? Anywhere they are more likely to leak?

They certainly are light for their size so I am guessing they are structurally light does this lead to more leaks?

Are they a traditional wood frame?

I heard of "leaky lunars" but surely they are not as bad as baileys?

What has happened to change your mind on Baileys? You were a big defender of Baileys on the last big thread about leaking Baileys.
Just be interesting to find out if you have had a major fail on your Bailey to change your mind?

I like the Lunar Quasar 615 good solid twin axle family caravan. We had the smaller 546 from 2009 - 2013 and it was a fantastic good quality van, we would definitely buy another Lunar. I do think if you can stretch to it that the 2007/8 onwards has the nicer layout.

We're certainly recent Lunar converts. We enjoyed our Bailey but the extra touches the Lunar offers and the obviously better quality finish tick all our boxes.

bit of feedback + spleen venting.

after driving 3h to view the caravan (where i live seems to be a caravan dealer vacuum, eg lots of small caravans but nothing at suits me locally) we found the dealer.

the Layout of the Quasar 615 was fantastic.

for the money asked though the interior was a little shabby. some trim peeling off, a shelf removed to accommodate a tv wall bracket, wall bracket removed leaving the holes behind but no shelf replaced, just some grip fill marks but the worst is yet to come.

went around with my damp meter, all ok in the overhead lockers, down the walls etc less than 20% more like 12-16%

looked under the rear dinette seat, found a 28% and lifted lino (plus on reflection the plywood looked lighter in coulour than i expected.

then the horror! looked under the rear fixed bunk.

fungus growing, lino lifted and soaking wet under. big watermark on wall boards. damp reading of HHH which is over 40% on my meter.

looked underneath and the floor was so rotten the corner steady had punched its way through the floor.

by contrast my ranger has had damp repairs under warranty but at least the floor has not rotted through.

out of Courtesy i told the dealer and they suggested they could fix it all and that 'all caravans have some damp problems that need fixing' 'we are a bailey dealer and quite often they need to be sent back to bailey to be fixed under warranty'

we also looked at a swift bowmere 6 berth at the same dealer. we were greeted by a bucket in the middle of the floor half full of water. the sky light was still dripping into the bucket (it wasn't raining at that point) there was a water mark on the ceiling.

these guys were asking nearly £10k for the lunar and 10450 for the swift. you would think they would at least fix them up before offering them for sale.

i still like the double dinette layout but need to find a good one.

There are plenty of caravans about its just not a great time of year to be looking. It will busy up significantly as we approach Easter which is early this year.

My favourite time to buy is September though as people 'give up' vanning after the summer.

There are loads of vans about with the same layout as I already have and there are loads of larger vans with fixed double beds just not many larger vans with bunk beds. And nothing local to me.
