hi we are reluctantly selling our camper van & probably having to give up altogether for health reasons & the fact it is costing about a £1,000 just to keep it on the drive, as I've never owned a caravan, could you tell me what will it cost to have a caravan, i.e.:- insurance & site fees for a season as I would not want to tow it about, might as well struggle with the van.
thanks all.

Hi James, sorry to hear you're giving up your campervan. We don't site our van instead choosing storage at £330 per annum. We pay around £300 for insurance and approximately £200 for serving. Others will tell you about seasonal pitches but I'd expect to pay £2000 per year.

Towing isn't too bad at all and if you get a van with a motor mover the experience of pitching is an easy one.

Good luck with your future caravaning.

Site fees on a season will be around £2500 plus around £400 so £3000 is the cost you are looking at per year

hi Graham, Ken, thanks guys that's something to think about, if we go down the caravan route we could get it brought back home, the seasonal site fees are to much.
thought if the van does not get sold to trade it in.
thanks for your help.

Hi James

A lot of caravaners move to motor homes so you might be able to offer a private part exchange through gumtree or on here. Both are free to do so nothing lost. Just be careful selling privately. Lots of campers stolen.

All depends what facilities you want on your site, you get what you pay for.im on a site in north wales, basic facilities.ie showers, toilets, sink to wash dishes and elsen point.but im only a 5 minute stroll along canal to shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs and its only £1300 per year seasonal pitch and the site is a hidden gem.
so have a good look around on here before throwing in the towel.

There are some sites who will store your van and pull it onto a pitch when you want to use it. Might be cheaper for you.

I pay fifteen hundred for my seasonal pitch (plus electric used) and have heard of others who pay less. If you are not wanting a coastal site it is usually cheaper.

Hi, store and tow sites are plentiful I know of ,cornwall, south wales dorset and yorkshire sites, these average around £350 for years storage and then charge around £5 -£10 to put on pitch then away again. you then just pay usual pitch price whist on pitch. our insurance costs us approx.£100

I know someone that pays £700 a year for a fixed pitch and an extra £20 a night when they stay, Awnings can stay up but electric must be disconnected.

And someone else that pays almost £4000 with the nightly fee varying depending on the time of year. Awning must be taken down if you not using the pitch for more than 2 weeks and electric must be removed when not occupying the pitch.

Wait for the scammers to contact you someone will offer you the full price unseen because they trust you and its a gift for someone.
Then they may send you more money that the selling price, again they trust you and you can return any leftover funds after paying any expenses that you may have.

They will pay by some dodgy method but make out it covers you, then they get the vehicle collected and you give them the excess money back then possibly months down the line the original funds gets reclaimed as fraudulent and you have no vehicle and minus the money you gave them back.

Wifes friend had a similar scam a few weeks back selling an electrical item, They added an extra zero so it was thousands not hundreds, Buyer was not fussed and trusted the wifes friend. I said its a scam the cheque will be reported lost/stolen months down the line and they will get you to refund them via some untraceable method.
