I have a KIP caravan which has Alko hubs and a 'Kadette' wheel which I assume is from an Opel Kadette car. The wheel has 6 holes and the hub only has 4. I am replacing the studs as they are slightly butted off and want to be safe. How do I check the size and type of the lug nuts, I believe they are an M12 conical type. Also is it a problem if the whee has 6 holes and the hub only has 4 ? It's an old van so the wheels have probably been changed at some point. Apologies if this is a 'newb' question but I don't want any wheel issues in France ! any advice very much appreciated !!

I like KIP caravans but there aren't many in the UK, there used to be an owners club in Holland so that may be worth a look. In the meantime, are all the wheels the same? If the wheel is from an Opel it should have a GM stamp on it with a date code. I thought that the Opel car was spelled Kadett so it may be that the wheel is not a car wheel after all.
If you have a look at the Alko website there are loads of diagrams and instructions so that may give you the stud sizes.

Opel Kadet's had 4 stud wheels, except the Work's rally cars, some of which had 5 stud wheels. As said they would be marked with either the GM or Opel stamp.
I suspect your wheel was made specifically for your caravan by a maker called Kadette. 6 stud wheels are very unusual on saloon cars, and are generally found on large Japanese 4x4's.
I would take the wheel to an independent tyre dealer who will probably be able to match the wheel to something suitable and to advise on suitable wheel studs.

The nut has of course to match the wheel's conical or spherical countersink, not just the thread of the stud.
the whole six to four game sounds a bit iffy to me to be honest.. what part should be used with what part seems a complete possibly dangerous unknown..
offering forum advice in such a situation is maybe not a good idea.. i think expert (on the spot) inspection and advice is what is really required..
General engineering practise if your studs are 12mm dia there should be a minimum of 18mm of thread inside your hub, so measure length you can see and add 18 mm.
normally with cars which come with ally wheels and spare is steel you also get four correct length bolts to fit spare.(usually shorter than bolts for ally's)
I have retro fitted alloys on my antique Kip caravan, and they were a pain to replace regarding the nuts. They were already on when I bought it - not my choice!!
If it has an Alko chassis then wheels should be standard caravan wheels 13inch 4 stud 100pcd 4.5j 30offset. You can buy these from any caravan shop and correct studs to go with, so probably your best bet.
The use of incorrect wheels is a bad idea and solution should be simple. Wheels cost around £35 each and I'm guessing tyres would be 155/80x13 standard car tyres for a light caravan.
