Hi I've just brought my first caravan, an old sprite compact pop top.
The previous owners have painted the outside in god knows what (it has bubbled and flaked really badly) and I am trying to remove this without stripping the original paint. I've spend hours so far using a steamer and scraping it off but wondered if anyone has any tips on removing it more efficiently and quickly.
Also what's best to use to re paint after? I was thinking coach enamel
Use paint stripper to get it all off otherwise you won't have a smooth surface to repaint, coach enamel will do the job, you can apply with suitable roller. Old Sprite is certainly worth preserving. Good luck with it.
Probably done that because they didn't use a primer. Or the wrong paint. I would have thought coach enamel/ car body paint would be the best thing to use, but use a primer first.
You must be keen I stripped a Ford transit mini bus some years ago using brake fluid and repainted with roller and brush.
one of primer one of undercoat one of gloss rubbing down any blemishes in between and touching up and a final spray two coats of lacquer(I did not do spraying)
It took for ever IE one coat per day with 48hrs in between getting rid of any brush marks and touching up. The results were fantastic but what hard graft. I wish I had learnt how to spray.
