Hi
I am going down the m5 and would like to try the new service area near gloucester. However there is no mention of caravan parking only HGV/buses. has anyone been to this service area and what is caravan parking like?
Came up the M5 from J25 to the M42 junction towing caravan, yes the M5 was busy pulled into Sedgemoor North and could not get parked in the caravan area for cars, transits there were about 4 caravan units that were parked. Same situation at the next services we tried
yes they have an area for caravans, we have not used it with a caravan yet
so can not comment on what its like but i do know its a separate area, last time i used it just with the car the overflow area was in use
There is a dedicated caravan parking area, it is well signposted as you drive in. It is furthest away from the service area. I found it quite a walk (use crutches) but there would not have been anywhere to park a caravan on the normal car parking area.
Saw a caravan stolen from the HGV section of Reading services. Couple of minutes was all it took. Hedges screen that parking area from normal foot traffic. I always put the hitch lock and wheel clamp on when using services after that, and we take it in turns to visit the conveniences.

I never leave my van unattended at service areas for 2 reasons.1 it can be stolen so quickly, 2 easy for a truck with a 45 ft trailer to damage you whilst parking. We always take turns to stay in the car.
'We usually pull into the HGV section on any motorway service area.'
This isn't fair on HGV drivers who then can't park especially during the week.
If there are lots if spaces if would be OK but otherwise it's not recommended. Then again if there is no dedicated caravan parking area what do you do?
Sadly the UK doesn't cater for lorry drivers with decent overnight parking facilities, that's why so many have to slum it in laybys and trading estates

Just to clear things up, we never leave our Car/Caravan, we take it in turns to use the facilities, we never park next to any HGV (unless there are no caravan places and we have to) we always park way out of the way of everyone else.
