I'm the fortunate owner of a 1990 Compass Omega 510/5!
Can anyone advise on the structure of the walls, please. Are they built a bit like partition walling in homes with vertical studs and the odd horizontal to brace and then the space between filled with foam maybe? Is it then clad in 4mm ply or hardboard and papered over?
reason for my asking is I want to be able to screw into the walls but need to know where I safely can. Perhaps a stud locator is needed.
Horizontally they should follow the line of the windows and the interior fittings and vertically also. That is how most caravans were constructed until more recently.
The strength of the wall is in the bonding of the aluminium to the insulation and the inner wall, the interior studding offers little if sny structural integrity to the wall.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Cupboards etc are screwed to where the studs are. You can screw into the wall anywhere but only use short screws (Half inch) and it won't take much weight. As Bill Terry asked - what are you trying to hang.
(If you want to hang something heavy you will need to find a stud or also screw into an existing cupboard) Another way would be to fix a large piece of conti over a big area and then screw into that. For extra strength you could bond the conti to the wall. But it would be very helpful to know what you are trying to fix.
That's easy then - just find the studs and bob's your uncle.
(Don't forget - short screws - You should be ok sinking a screw about 0.75 inches into the stud. - You may be ok with screws going in a full inch but have someone outside the caravan - for any sign of a screw pushing the ali)
(As you suggested yourself before - buy a stud finder - not dear at Argos or Maplin)
Well that's it sold my Pennine sterling, now got a tin box; Fleurette pop up due to ill health, got fed up with climbing Mount Everest , Fleurette much easier to handle with all mod cons installed . But will still miss it though.
