People who don't sterilise their water pipes are oblivious to the fact that because they have never been ill in the past that they never will. The true facts are that the bacteria is slowly multiplying over time so there is going to be a point where if the system isn't treated the intake of water contamination is lable to take no survivors. It's no different to saying, "I never wear a seat belt in my car because I've never been in a collision".

That's a ridiculous comparison.

We don't either, but then I don't drink the water out of the tap.
no, we don't either. Just use it to clean teeth, shower etc..
Ah well, there you go. If you had said you didn't use the water in the tank/pipes for drinking or cooking, then I would maybe agree that a good flushing out with plain water would be all that was needed...but I wouldn't clean my teeth with it either!
I cant believe that some people on here dont clean out the pipes.Just think, their van is laid up for months at a time a breeding ground for germs and the like.Evan the water they drink from their home taps have a mild form of bacteria killer in it.

And therefore so does the water at the sites ?
Of course it does.... before it enters your water system in the caravan which then the clean water is contaminated afterwards or is that too difficult to work out?
It is when the fresh water remains stagnant for a period of time inside the water system that the chemicals that treat the water supply start to deteriorate over time. The process starts with a minute bacteria which in small doses can be harmless but as time goes by the bacteria multiplies so the bacteria generates itself and attach to the inside of the plastic pipes which is called bio-film. It is when it gets to this stage that the bio-film can contaminate the water so the answer is to treat the water periodically with the right product to completely eliminate the unwanted bacteria. As the old saying goes... prevention is better than cure.
