As we approach the busiest time of year can members who tackle the A30 roadworks or its diversions please share their experiences for the benefit of those yet to travel. Thanks
Just come home from Cornwall, the dual carriageway has cones each side of works for about 2 miles slowing traffic down to one lane with speed limit. We travelled week day but think it will cause a lot of congestion with weekend holiday traffic. These road works to last for 16 months. Not diverted off.
The A30 is only restricted in speed, set speed cameras at 40mph this is at the Temple stretch which is in the process of being dualed, it does not completely happen til Sept-ish next year. There are no diversions ,it is all open, just damned slow, the idea is to cure the "Bottle Neck" that going from dual to single road. It was very busy heading east bound this Saturday, as it is change over day. To travel any day except a Saturday would be my advice.
If traveling overnight there could be road closures when needed
If you are traveling overnight check the travel sites for Cornwall first
It is anticipated that during construction, there will be a 40mph speed limit on the A30, enforced by the use of ‘Average Speed’ cameras.
Will there be diversions?
Certain elements of the work may require the A30 to be closed for the work to take place e.g. lifting of bridge beams into place, any such closures will take place at night in order to minimise disruption. Advance warning of the closures will be given through the local newspapers, local radio, Cornwall Council website and through information boards displayed on site. The appropriate traffic diversion routes will be fully signed for the duration of the closure.

And just to make things worse the other route into Cornwall over the Tamar, the bridge is undergoing repairs overnight for the next 3 weekends starting next weekend.
Issues M5/A38 Just after Exeter, Torquay a380 telegraph hill, inter change A38, delays while re surfacing, and long delays into Newton Abbot and Torquay while bypass is being built, I know its not Cornwall but it will affect journey times if travelling via M5.. to Cornwall
I returned from Cornwall three weeks ago on a Saturday. The traffic was bad from St Austell and it took just over ninety minutes to negotiate the road works on the A30. It was bad on both carriageways but after negotiating the road works there were no more problems until the M6.
For those stuck in a short jam in the middle of the westbound roadworks Sunday afternoon, my apologies.
The car just slowed and stopped! Fortunately a passing breakdown truck put a cable on the car and towed a short distance to a small pull-off area(?Fishery). Thank you driver from 4 Winds garage Newquay.
Car restarted after resting for a while, arrived Chacewater a few hours later than planned!
