Hi

Out van is 11 years old but in great condition. Currently with cc for insurance. Been good over last for years but no claim.

My wife had a car accident recently and had gap insurance so all worked well.

We were wondering re caravan insurance new for old, cc wont cover as our van missed one service!!

Caravan guard have quoted new for old for decent premium, any one got any views on them, as want decent insurance not just cheapest.

Regards
Rob

Caravan Guard have had some excellent reviews on here especially where claims are concerned as the underwriters are Royal Sun Alliance which is the company that insure all the cars for the disabled 'Motability' scheme so are a well established company.
However, if you pay by cash for the annual payment it shouldn't be a problem but if you wish to pay monthly like I do then you have to make an appplication via a credit company which they then conduct a credit search which obviously affects your credit rating. Because of this I changed to Saga caravan insurance which was £12 cheaper anyway but you have to be over 50 years of age to be able to insure with them.

The one caravan insurance company to steer clear from is E&L as the feedback on here has been appalling with refusals to pay out in the event of a claim and those that did eventually get paid received nothing but hassle and a long unjustified waiting time.

Can only second what tango55 has posted.

E&L have an abysmal reputation, they also do pet insurance but seem to have the same attitude to claims there as well. There is a notice up in our vets to the effect that they won`t do insurance work on pets insured through E&L.

We stick with the CC for our van insurance. They aren`t the cheapest, but apparently are easy to deal with if a claim is made, and only require one form of security with no silly clauses about unattended parking.

I'm talking about insuring a 1999 caravan for around £80 per year so is it really worth having a credit search conducted for that small amount?
Saga didn't do a credit search on me when I took out caravan or car insurance with them and I pay on a monthly basis for both of these.
However, I can quite understand having a credit search conducted for larger sums of borrowing but if you had any intention of applying for finance within the following six months then the credit application for insurance purposes would be accounted for and possibly affect your application.
That's what's wrong with having a credit search done for a small amount.

I thought 5 years was the maximum limit for a 'new for old' policy as well.

I have never heard of anything where the CC will not insure a caravan because it has missed a service. It does state though that the caravan should be maintained and roadworthy.

After several like for like quotes I insured with Caravan Guard yesterday.

They were 12% less than CCC Clubcare renewal who I have been with for 5 claim free years and 50% less than the Caravan Club.

Caravan Club super 5CS policy new for old requires a caravan over 5 years old to to be servicd annually at a competent caravan workshop.

Nope, and cheaper than the CCC by quite a bit.
