i love camping in a tent and wanted to take my sons and wife camping. my tent was too small for every one and the thought of night time trips to the toilets didnt bear thinking about. so i bought a caravan. i don't regret it.
i think what Mucker1884 says is true but my wife and i work as a team and it only takes us 1h to pack up with our light weight awning and abour 2.5h with the full awining. but then it only takes me 1h to pack up my tent, camp bed etc.. and strap it to my motorbike.
its handy to have beds an oven, grill, hob, microwave, toilet, hot and cold running water, shower, tv, fridge lights heater and of course a door to close and lock.
fortunately for me i already had a Jeep to tow with so didnt need to go to the expense of changing cars. i payed more than 1000 for my caravan and still had to have the damp repaired under warranty by the dealer i bought it off. if you do buy a van for 1000 and there are plenty around for that just take a £5 damp meter with you and check the usual spots for damp (inside lockers by the ceiling, under windows etc... if it shows 20% or above walk away. that said if the damp is not established and the timber not rotten its not difficult to reseal. but obviously a 5 year old van for 1000 is to good to be true, my van was 7 years old when i bought it and cost 7 times more than that. but go take a look at some older vans they have the same benefits as newer vans....just look a little older and in my experience my 7 year old van is by no means the oldest on the site.
