Hi,

Please can I have some advice. New to caravanning. Want a fixed bunk bed layout for the kids. Been looking at Adrias and got a local small time dealer to agree to sell me a 2008 502dk one for 6k. Checked and seems reasonable but not mega bargin. Like Adrias and they are resistant to damp, but they are a bit basic. I've seen you can get lunar zenith 6 with fixed bunks for slightly cheaper and they look a lot plusher. What do you think is 6k too much, would a lunar be better, or should I see what comes up September October? I started off looking to spend 2k so I've got a bit carried away.

6k sounds about right for a 2008 5 berth Adria. There is a 2007 ranger 550/6 at a dealers near me for £6995 Adrias are wider than equivalent uk vans so a bit more spacious and as I see it are more modern and less chintzy than U.K. Vans. I started looking at adrias 530 DKs but eventually bought a bailey ranger 550/6 as it was newer for the same money. But in my mind more chintzy and not as well built plus they leak. Mine did and was repaired by the dealer I bought it off

In hindsight I am not sure if the bunk bed arrangement for the children, my kids love the bunks but they are only closed off by a curtain so there is no way they will sleep until we do which means grumpy children every day or pretending to go to bed then getting up again. In hindsight a layout like the 540/5 would have been better which has a door to partition off the rear end with a bunk and double beneath. I do feel though that a shorter caravan would be cramped so for daytime use the bunks and side dinette provide a lot of space. In my limited experience though I would look at the adria and maybe an older one. I would like a bigger van to be honest.

I'd have gone for the Adria for what it's worth. We had a 542DT and liked it. Would still have a Adria if I hadn't seen a Bailey at a price I couldn't say no to last year.
