I do all our towing. I'm a terrible passenger, so saves any arguments! I find I'm much more relaxed if i do the driving!

I was absolutely bricking it even thinking about towing a caravan (a search on my topics on here will tell show you that) but I must admit it was not as bad as I thought and the more I do it, the easier it gets. I don't think it will ever be something I really enjoy but I am a lot more relaxed about it now.

I dont think it hurts to be slightly nervous when towing as you are more likely to be bitten through complacency.

Have a go at towing yourself as that may give ou a better insight into it.

Only time my oh drives with me in the car is when I've been indulging in alcohol. Other than that I always do the driving as I'm a terrible passenger. Apart from that she doesn't want to tow anyway.

I don't have a choice and do all the driving. Been towing tractor trailer units since I was 12 on the farm so I don't stress when towing a caravan.

My wife on the other hand was late coming to driving (her choice). Passed her test in her 40's, got a little Ford Ka for her and after 12 months she had covered only one thousand miles.
Then declared she didn't want to drive again? Nothing happened she just didn't enjoy driving, she had never towed and had just driven her Ka.

She is ok when I am driving solo or towing.

So we sold the Ka and she has not driven since, not even my car.

Well I think you only get nervous when you feel scared or uncomfortable about something.

I would get nervous if you asked me to sing a song but not tow a caravan.

When I tow, my awareness is keener, I plan ahead amd see whats up ahead etc..etc as I am sure most caravanners do but being nervous is another thing altogether.

That is the only time my OH lets me drive him!!!! except he has now let me drive his new Audi....because the new smell has gone, and the fact someone kindly drove into the back of him the other week, so it is already scratched.

Has a passenger I'm terrible... this is our first caravan and decided on south of France for our main holiday because we like it down there!! think I was glued to the car seat all way there.
Sometimes when we passed a truck or a truck passed us we got sucked into the side of it. It was very scary at times. I really thought we would crash. Some of the trucks seem run over their limit too but that isn't surprising abroad.
Anyway I've another year to wait now till I go to France, just uk to face now!!

keep on caravanning, life is too short

What a great thread we are really new to caravaning so reassuring to see other people feel as worried about towing as me .we only got our first van last month and decided on anglesey for our first trip "Homefarm" I was so stressed driving I thought the worst at every bump pure terror didn't help when I panicked at an instruction from the sat nav turned to soon and ended up having to go down 3 one track roads coming head to head with a tractor towing a trailer at one point .to get back on route. That night I had decided it's not for me and the van was going ..but the break was so relaxing and the drive home much less tense not to mention the ease it was to park the van Thanks to the motor mover .Im now planning to tow from Manchester to Devon in about two weeks .but I must admit to quote another member I'm starting to brick it again
