I have just bought a folding caravan (Gobur). I am taking it on a long journey and will need to take the odd rest break. Rather than having to try and find somewhere suitable to go to the toilet where I can pull off road (ladies will understand the complexity of this), I thought I may just be able to assemble the caravan without unhitching. (I have a toilet in the caravan). Does anyone know if this is possible or will I damage the tow bar or van. Finding hitching up difficult on my own:(
I think finding a service station would be a lot easier than putting the van up.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Thanks for the advice folks..... but where I am going, there are no services. I am also travelling with two dogs and I will not leave them alone in the car. (It may be a hot day). Unfortunately, service station toilets do not allow dogs... and they need to stretch their legs too. Parking up somewhere is my only solution. Gobur folding caravans only take a few minutes to put up and take down. Think I will give it a go....... unless someone knows of a real reason why staying hitched up is not a good idea.
I don't see that it would be a problem leaving it hitched up, we have done so with our caravan on the odd occasion when travelling with infrequent services to stop at.
As the toilet in a Gobour is located at the front, as is the door there will be no need to drop the rear steadies. Opening it up whilst coupled will not cause any issues; it did not to mine.
Thank you all so much for your replies. I feel more confident now. I guess all these things come with the experience of being a caravan owner. The more I travel with my 'little van'... the more I will learn along the way.
When we had a folding caravan we slept 4 adults in it on a stop over in France once, still attatched to the car. Just put front and rear legs down for support. Oh and the dog aswel.
Keiron...
I wouldnt even bother putting the corner steadies or jockey wheel down.
Have a hitch lock on all the time and park in a public area.
Worthwhile keeping the unit is sight while your walking (?) the dogs.
