I have my caravan based in Dinan, its a Sterckermen 420 CP. I have not towed before and expect to do so next year. It doesn't have a fitted battery or motor mover as its always been hitched up to the camp site electricity and stayed in situ. I have thought about towing it without a motor mover as it is not heavy. Can I have anyone's views on this.

If I was to get a battery and motor mover fitted can anyone recommend someone in France?

Provided you can reverse onto pitches ok then no need for a mover. Even if you need to swing it around on pitch by hand usually somebody is about to help you. Might be more difficult to level side to side but you can jack it up to put leveller under wheel.

As above you don't need a motor mover to tow a van. They are really for positioning the van on site/levelling, you can probably manhandle it a bit depending on site.

It may be a good idea to check that all is OK with tyres/wheels/chassis etc prior to towing especially if it has been sited for a significant time.

If it's not heavy and you are a dab hand at reversing you won't need a mover.
Then again they are great when you have one heavy van or not,

In view of the above, I think I would first get a chassis check including a tyre check done, especially if it hasn't been moved for a few years.

Then if you haven't ever towed anything, perhaps get a bit of practice in, either with someone experienced beside you, or by getting a towing course.

After you have done a bit of towing, moving it about, etc., then you will know whether you need a motor mover or not.

Thanks for all your views and advice, I won't make a rash judgement. When I say I haven't towed before I mean a caravan; I have towed boats so I do have an idea of towing but even so I do intend to do some refresher tow training especially in reversing.

I think I will tow, as is, and see the problems I get without a motor mover but I'll have to brush up on my towing skills beforehand.
