I have just bought a casita folding caravan, I had to free up the hitch, it will compress with allot of force, but wont return, unless pulled (with resistance) is this normal? or should it return out again?
also does anyone know what brake shoes and bearings it may take? it has FTF SV100 on the hitch.
You need to dismantle hitch, clean draw tube & reassemble using plenty of grease. You may need to ream bushes as they expand with age, draw tube should be smooth sliding fit in bushes. Inside draw tube is damper, these become weak & eventually fail so it may need replacing as well. If caravan thumps against hitch when you brake then damper will have had it, braking should be smooth & progressive.
Have a look at the axle. If it is made by Al-ko then brakes shoes & bearing are available back to 1980s.
thank you, I have removed the damper, you can press it with force by hand and it slowly returns when out of hitch. the draw tube is still stiff, I will try to remove the draw tube when its light, I removed the brake yoke and got it so far back. I think a good clean might help. many thanks again for your help
