Is anybody else suffering from lack of quality control and poor workmanship on the Bailey Unicorn Vigo 2015?

Here's the list of problems (20 problems in total) we had with our 2015 Vigo. Bailey not interested in helping us or offering any compensation for all the time we've wasted. We just have to keep taking it in for warranty repairs. We still haven't had a trip without faults since buying it in March 2015. Bailey also very slow in providing parts to our dealer. I doubt we will buy Bailey again.

1 Bathroom light failed - won't turn on
2 Water pump failed - constantly clicking and constantly on
3 Bailey log at front fell off
4 Bailey letter "A" at front fell off
5 Three fridge door shelves have broken during travel - not even holding anything majorly heavy
6 Window blind on the door does not retract properly
7 Window blind in bathroom does not retract properly
8 Push button for cupboard above sink broke - I believe screws were too short
9 Base of seat (bench) in lounge broke in half - looking at it there is no support at the rear of the seat
10 Lump was protruding from veneer strip on bedroom wall
11 Satellite connection to kitchen and bedroom areas was not connected properly
12 Shaving mirror retaining clip was missing in the bathroom
13 One of the bed slats keeps falling off from under the bed.
14 The plastic covers that cover the corners of the bed under the bit that can be raised kept falling off.
15 The holder for one of the gas bottles fell off due to the screws being too small
16 The indicators kept flashing at double speed – a device had to be fitted to the caravan, but this has not resolve1 Bathroom light failed - won't turn on

19 The 12V supplies were causing damage to my devices rendering them no longer usable. It was discovered that there is an inherent fault in the solar power that means if the battery fails then too much voltage (14.8V) is sent to the 12V supplies by the solar power.
19 TV outlet to awning was brokend the problem despite it looking like it had done initially. This is a known problem and the only solution is to replace all the LED lights with incandescent lights
17 The thermostat was reading about 4 degrees above the actual temperature.

I've thought about that. Sale of Goods Act requires that any repairs are dealt with or a replacement or refund offered if there are inherent faults. Question is, do we want a replacement or refund? That would be a lot of hassle and would probably leave us without a caravan for a long time while we wait for delivery of a new one. So every time we get a fault we hope it will be the last one so we can enjoy the van !!!

There has to come a point where the number of faults inherent in a new caravan, even if they are relatively minor in isolation, reach the point of being unfit for purpose.

Trading Standards are well used to dealing with rogue companies that take their duties as trading entities very lightly and treat thejr customers with contempt.

They can advise you on your rights and remedies but if you don't want to take that advice that is your perogative too.

But I would also say as a new caravaner (is that a word?)running a touring caravan is a lot like a sailing yacht, in that constant attention is needed to lots of small systems to keep all working and good order.

And like running a car:
Oil = Pink
Petrol = Gas
Fuses = Fuses
Bulbs = Bulbs
Cleaning = Cleaning etc.

But inherent problems are different to wear and tear and normal maintenance.

Anyway, we will soldier on and see what happens but I have posted in the hope of saving other people the same problems and I would advise looking at alternatives. It was a feature and gadget laden caravan so I suppose that's why they've cut corners to keep the cost down. Still not an excuse.

Thank goodness we didn't buy a new Bailey in February. We went for a Swift.

I know,Swift have problems too as we found out with one we bought new a few years ago.As the case above we had numerous faults within the first twelve months including damp but we did get it exchanged eventually.We still stick with Swift and the new van we have is brilliant.Touch wood!!!!!

That is not good,dealer not carried out correctly, factory quality control atrocious!
There seems to be inconsistent quality.We have a Vigo 2 which is just over a year old,faults to date:
Broken clip in glass holder in cabinet.
Rear window blind sticking.
The parts are in,being fitted later as the workshop is booked solid.
Hope you get a satisfactory outcome.

Sorry but to me those faults don't exactly sound a deal breaker ......

Working through your very confusing list:

PDI AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN PICKED UP BY THE DEALER.

I BET YOUR THERMOSTAT AT HOME IS JUST AS INACCURATE, SO SORRY, CLUTCHING AT STRAWS.

SORRY BUT ALL THE 12V ITEMS I HAVE ARE QUITE CAPABLE OF ACCEPTING 14.8V, AS THAT IS WHAT IS STANDARD IN VEHICLES.

Thanks for your reply. Surely when spending £21K on a caravan you don't expect all these little problems?

1 - wouldn't have been picked up at PDI as was originally working
2 - I don't even know where the pressure switch is
3&4 - not deal breakers on their own but when part of 20 problems - well . . .
5 - no - definitely not strained them. Only bottom shelf has ever had drinks in - others have very light stuff.
10 - not pedantic when spent £21K and we could see it all the time
13 - so everytime I lift the bed should I expect the same bed slat to fall off and I have to put it back again while holding the bed up with my head?
14 - and so why aren't they on properly and they keep falling amongst storage items under bed and getting lost
16 - double speed indication is a warning that lights aren't working properly. Similarly, the warning message that is always coming up on my dashboard. So I now don't know if a light suddenly fails during a journey - I would definitely call that a REAL problem
17 - no - my thermostat at home is fine and so are the very cheap ones - my car thermostat is also accurate.
18 - my car has never every blown one of my car chargers - only the caravan did - and 14.8V is not standard in vehicles at all
19 - no I mean initially - they tried to fix it once and then had to do it again
20 - so when we go away and try to put up the awning, is it really acceptable that we can't use it for the weekend?

I'm not clutching at straws at all here. Just listing the problems we have had to deal with. I've been caravanning for many years and have never experienced anything like this.

Sorry but to me those faults don't exactly sound a deal breaker ......

I agree, not a problem, they are being attended to. The OPs list is not acceptable IMHO, Pdi obviously not very good.
This is our fourth Bailey, none have had major problems, and I'm sure we are not alone, it seems that manufacturers have a problem with inconsistent quality?

£21 K ? I would expect better for that type of money.

DaveS - being attended to though doesn't mean them coming out to my house the next day to fix it. It means waiting several weeks each time for them to get the warranty approved, then get the parts, then find a slot. I then have to spend 1.5 hours getting caravan ready and hitched, taking it to dealer, coming home. Then repeat for return journey. Multiply that by 4 and that's the number of visits I've made so far. Petrol money plus 12 hours of time, plus of course all the phone calls and emails, and it certainly becomes a problem.

But if people are willing to do that, then that's their prerogative. I would just prefer an easier life for £21K as said by Vectratot.

So put a case together with evidence of the costs incurred and go to. Moneyclaimonline and sue them,

Maybe they will join the manufacturer in the action and you can get them both into court.
