We bought one of these about 18 months ago and was dismayed when I heard they had gone bust. It cost £120 but the general idea was that the dealers were liable when they went wrong and would uphold the guarantee. Ours isn't working at all, after showing full charge it dies after about 5 or 10 minutes of one light!
Our dealer (who is usually very good) says he's doing us a favour by giving us a £50 discount on a replacement battery as the onus isn't on him as the seller of the item.
Is he right?

not sure. But if you bought it from him, then he should replace the battery with a like for like at free of charge. After all he sold it you not a puchase direct from the makers.

Definitely not. As the supplier they are responsible under Sale of Goods Act. They are trying to fob you off.

The problem you may have is that after 6 months it is your responsblity to prove that the goods were faulty when you bought them and isn't the result of misuse or wear and tear.
The dealer cold argue that the battery failed becase it wasn't maintained properly or left discharged for too long.

True Saxo 1 But under the sale of goods act it should be fit for purpose, not pack up in 6 months, after all a liesure batt is used to being charged and discharged.

The dealer said that apparently we could pay £50 to have it tested to prove it was faulty, but he's prepared to stump up the £50 as a partial refund as a goodwill gesture. We have decided we will have to go with it, that or we lose the whole amount if we go elsewhere 😔
It's no wonder they went bust, their product is c**p.

It looks like your dealer is correct,below is an exerpt from the Elecsol Warranty terms and conditions:
"“The warranty card with all the required information i.e. Purchasers name, address and proof of purchase must be presented when claiming under warranty. The battery replacement service is to be carried out solely by the manufacturer and not by any of its affiliate dealers”

I have got one of their batteries after it was changed after 18 months under warranty. Seems to be lasting well. I am not surprised they are no longer with us. The man that ran it was a really objectionable character. I phoned him when ours failed and he just said take it back to dealer. Didn't even say hello!

The above quote is meaningless garbage (not your comment) as SOGA over rules any silly warranty that any manufacturer or supplier offers. However in this case the distributor went bust. He was a very rude person so not surprised he went bust as a one man operation.

Surely there is confusion here? The dealer is not responsible for honouring a makers warrantee but his own obligations under the SOGA.
In the case in discussion here having got 18 months service from the battery and an offer of £50 towards buying what you want, I would take that as the route of least hassle and not do so feeling poorly treated.
There are very much better batteries out there than you had. IMO it is very worth while reading John Wickersham's Power Players to know what you require to know in avoiding buying one like that again.

Bottom line is the super duper guarentee wasn't worth paying the extra for 😞

That "dupe-er" I assume was not a typo?
IME even the very best deep cycling batteries seem to come with relatively short warrantees; I was told by the wholesaler it is because if there was a manufacturing fault it would be evident quickly, after that almost without exception it will be user abuse.
