Help please, just bought a new to us coachman amara (Highlander), and when the water pump is initially switched on, hot water leaks constantly from the hot water tand vent area. This results in the pump running constantly and the water barrell emptying rapidly as more than half is water leaked so to speak.
Have checked valves, drained down and re-filled water tank, Now totally lost and begining to wish we hadn't up-graded.
Any advice much appreciated.

Don't loose heart Bunnyrabits we will get it sorted I'm sure. It sounds like one of 2 things, the safety/drain valve isn't working as it should, (that's the little toggle drain that you flick up to drain the tank outside when ready to move). As well as a drain it's a pressure valve when closed, it will open if the internal pressure gets above 2-3 bar. Either that or the pressure switch doesn't turn the pump off and the water pressure is actually getting up to it's 2-3 bar.

To sum up, does it drain straight after filling or after a while when the pressure builds up?

It sounds to me like the hot water drain valve is open. Near the water heater there will be a valve which is used to drain the system for over wintering.

We found out about this after we got the new van serviced and took it straight from the dealer to the site.

SWMBO filled the aqua roll and connected it to the van. Switched on the water pump and it started up and kept going!! On looking under the van a steady stream of water was being pumped out onto the ground.

This rapidly depleted the water in the aqua roll. We rang the dealer and indignantly pointed out the problem.

He said, we leave the drain valve open after service and told us where to turn it off.

Job done. Good job SWMBO didn't speak to him!!

Hi Dave, It takes a wee while for it to start draining out. What you've said makes sense as it takes a while and the water that escapes is hot. Do both yellow valves need to be down at the same time, or one up one down? I saw the pressure switch but do I adjust this when water pump on and a tap running? Thank you in advance. x

If it is leaking from the clear plastic tube connected to the red or sometimes orange elbow at the top it will need this replacing, as the air release valve does not hold, sometimes the internal piece disappears altogether and it pours out. These are a common failure and i have always kept one in my van as a spare for years.

It sounds like we may be getting close to a fix,
BTW I only have one yellow drain valve, never seen two. The other thing is, don't turn water heater on until all is stable and you know there are no leaks, you don't want to burn out your expensive heater element.

I might just give it a go david! I may even try looking at my wallet at the same time, be nice to see twice as much money in there.

Interesting, can the O-ring be replaced or does it mean a new unit? I've got plenty O-rings if needs be.
