Eons ago when we were looking at different vans I must have joined a Hobby mailing list. Received this today. Hope it's OK to repeat it here, if it helps one person . . .

Hi all,
August Bank Holiday Monday 2015 on a busy M5 motorway an Owners Club member suffered a catastrophic failure of one of the wheels (not a tyre but a steel wheel) on his Hobby caravan. Fortunately he was able to bring the car and caravan to a safe stop on the hard shoulder, this involved a great deal of skill and no small amount of luck.
The wheel was made by Gruppo CLN by its MW division under the brand Gianetti Ruote in 2005, and fitted to a 2006 model year Hobby.
In 2010 a similar accident occurred in an almost identical Hobby caravan made only a few days after the one involved in the potentially fatal Bank Holiday Monday incident. The wheel was identified as part of a defective batch and were replaced
There was a safety recall relating to these wheels in the past. But as the UK does not have a system of compulsory registration of caravans there is not a mechanism to notify owners of these recalls.
The details for the wheel that collapsed on Bank Holiday Monday are:
• 51/2 JX14H2 GIANETTI RUOTE 28 05 (Triangle Symbol) MWRO 904 marked on the rim
• ET30 RI-1422 RI.14.019 ByRO marked on the wheel centre.
What we are doing at the moment, in conjunction with Hobby Germany, Ambergate (Hobby UK) and Gruppo CLN is identifying the potentially faulty batch(es) of wheels.
Anybody who has a 2006 model year (position 12 of the VIN will be a 6) single axle Hobby caravan with steel wheels should check the wheels. The markings may not be exactly the same, the 28 05 seems to be a week number and year, 28th week of 2005 in this case, and the number after the MWRO may vary as well.
Please also check the spare wheel, if you have one, particularly where it wasn't supplied with the 'van from new, as it may also be part of the faulty batch.
If they have markings similar to those shown above please send your details and the wheel markings for each wheel to wheelrecall at hobbyownersclub.org.uk .
The emails will be forwarded to Gruppo CLN, Hobby Germany & Ambergate (Hobby UK).
As we get more information we will send out further emails.
So as to address the problem of recalls not being notified to Hobby owners in the UK we have proposed that the Owners Club should be provided with the details of recalls, they can then be sent out to club members.
