Hi
We had a Caravan for 10 years then changed to a Motorhome 5 years ago. It is now time to change our Motorhome but what we would like as far as layout, fixed bed, separate shower and toilet Motorhomes are out of our price range so my thoughts are to possible go back to a Caravan.
Has anybody else done this and was it the right decision?

Has to be your choice not anybody elses, somebody elses right decision could be your wrong decision. Motorhomes are generally used in a different way to caravans so if you change then your style of camping may well change as well. If you are used to going to France with motorhome & using aires & so on then you would have to change to using sites with caravan.

Apart from the the usual suggested advantage of a caravan meaning you can stay set up onsite & have car for running around in one could add much better cost effectiveness of car/caravan. A new car & new caravan together are considerably cheaper than motorhome with equivalent size accomodation & If you own a large motorhome you still need a car for when you are at home.

Also a caravan will stay reliable for many yrs with servicing but arguably both car & motorhome will need replacing every few yrs, so longer you keep caravan the more cost effective it becomes.

So really it comes down to how you use your motorhome. If you already treat it like a caravan & stay mostly for extended periods on sites in UK & abroad then you would find a caravan better. If you use your m/h for mostly short stops & touring then you will miss it by going to a caravan.

Thanks Billy
When we first got our Motorhome our plan was to travel abroad with it but unfortunately we have only done this once due to restricted holidays at work. We do use it most weekends and try to get a couple of weeks away in it through the year. We do a lot of walking when we are away so don't really miss a car. We have only used non electric sites a handful of times.
Reading your reply and typing this is making me sway more towards a Caravan.

I feel MH owners tend to be more isolated as they are away from the site and just come back and sit inside. Then move on frequently.

Caravan owners tend to stay around the site more and stay longer and spend more time at the tap etc. Just my feeling.

I think car/caravan are no slower or difficult for the journey but, when separated, the car is far better to have. I really cringe when I see a MH towing a car, it seems such a lot of hassle.
